I just thought I would get on here and let you folks know a little of what's going on. i started my poling adventure in 2010 after being unemployed for a year and wanting to get out of my depression. I immediately fell in love. I got around to my year with not as much progess as I would have liked because 3 months into this year long journey I became the teacher or sorts. Not knowing how to do or even teach some on the moves, I took a level one class in Atlanta at Polelateaz and loved every minute.

The problem is that Atlanta is an hour and 45 minutes away each way. I would love to still continue classes but that drive is killing me as well as the gas money. I want to conitnue taking classes so that when I am done with my Master's degree hopefully this June, I can begin with my beginner classes.

The reason I am discouraged is because I fell that without taking these classes, I won't make any progress. I look at all these ladies (and gentlemen) who are comfortably inverting months in an I'll be at 2 years poling and barely inverting. I know that if i can learn the moves I can maintain them, but I also don't have a lot of room at home to pole.

So there you have it, just wanted to get that out and maybe it will help me think. Just feeling ready to give up https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Do you take the lessons here Tamikat? I go to a studio as well, but not on a regular basis. Most of the advanced moves, I have learned here form Veenas lessons. What were you teaching / where? Good luck to you and try not to get discouraged! Even if you cant get to a studio, there are so many supportive girls here. Get in Fri chat or set up some skype jams.

I am with Paulette. I have never even set foot in a studio. Veena's lessons and the sweet Veeners have been priceless for me. I often skype and pole/get advice in chat. Wish you the best of luck and hope you don't give up.

I do go to a studio, but have honestly learned quite a bit from Veena lessons.  If you make the effort, set aside the time for yourself, I believe this site will help you get where you want to be!  The price for a year of lessons is awesome.

I feel your pain, having moved out here with no close studios I took the money and put it into a year on Veena, I love it,  I have made a studio of sorts out of the apt next door and you are welcome to come pole with me anytime.  If you need a pole friend in Chatt I'm very much a beginner but was thinking about putting a car pool together to Nashville for March 30th as well to take a class from Alethea Austin who will be in town on the double trouble tour.  Veena has been the best class environment yet.  When I was taking classes in Utah, there were always girls in the open class who were more advanced and I was trying things my body just wasn't conditioned enough or ready to do yet.  I"m in Red Bank and I usually pole in the evenings.  There's room for another one in there. 🙂

I understand why you're frustrated! You're not alone. I've been poling for about 4 years (possibly More?!) and haven't actually done a proper basic invert yet. I'm close, and that's exciting, but it's also frustrating to see everyone else progress so quickly to that, and I… well, I don't!

But, as many people here have told me, it's not a race or a contest! As long as YOU are having fun, why push yourself so hard? Inverts will come, and there's lots and lots of stuff you can do while grounded or spinning in the meantime!

I've not had pole lessons in a classroom for a very long time- a lack of money and available lessons means that I don't get them, like, ever. But, I've found Veena's lessons, when I can afford them, to be quite beneficial, and otherwise, you can always take a look at youtube or other places for moves, and inquire about issues here on the forum! It's been a great resource for me!

As for not having much room at home for your pole… Been there, too. I've had places where I was surprised I actually had enough room for the pole itself! But, you make it work. Sometimes you gotta move furniture, sometimes you can't and just have to not spin on one side for fear of kicking the couch or something… but it can work out. Practice your footwork, deal with other moves, till you can get back out to a studio!

You could even see if that studio would give you some time on the pole when they aren't running classes, like once a week, or even every couple of weeks or every month, so that you can just have a bit of space!

Girl! I have been poling for almost 5 years now!! I am just getting the basic butterfly! And when I perform, I forget everything. Did I mention that I am 100% self taught??? I have never had a 1 on 1 physical lesson. I started with two DVDs and eventually found Veena late in my game. Do you have a pole? Get busy working on it yourself. You can do it! I know if I can anyone can. Who cares how long it takes. That will make it even more better!

Please don’t be discouraged… It was almost a year before I could even think about trying to invert, and then once I started to get it, the studio closed down. When I went to another studio, I discovered I was kicking instead of lifting, and had to start all over anyway. I totally understand about the long drive to classes. I drive over an hour to my classes as well. I have my own pole, but my pole space is so small I can’t really do any tricks or floorwork just pole transitions. I know it’s easy to want to rush things, or compare ourselves to other dancers, but sometimes there are obstacles along our journey. But if you love it and you have passion for it, you will keep going no matter what. Can you do a drop in class even once a month just to get some studio time? In the meantime, hang in there. Work on mastering and perfecting the things that you can with what you’ve got and discover your dancing style. We are all here for you on SV. Xoxo!

Everyone progress at their own rate. That's why I love pole dancing. You aren't expected to be at a certain level after a certain amount of time. I used to compare myself to other people but it would only get me down and now I understand that Its going to take me longer to do things because I am on the heavier side. But it isn't going to stop me from progressing or loving pole dancing. You just do you 🙂

thanks to all you lovely ladies for my pep talks and encouragement. you all made some ownderful points. i am taking the veena lessons and i also have premier pole online as it helps me break up my routine some. i am going to try and take some time for myself and get into a routine that i can handle and just have fun. no rush, its not a competition with anyone. i'm my own worst enemy.

@paulette i was teaching here in chattanooga just beginner stuff and running a few parties. things got chaotic and the studio moved so i put all that on hold for school.

@teelee i may have to take you up on the offer to come have a pole jam, its so nice to know there is someone else in chatt. to pole with. im pretty much a beginner myself but i did go to atl to pole la teaz and graduated level 1. maybe we could pop down for a weekend workshop one weekend (or weekday if i know in adv and take pto lol who doesnt love leaving work to go pole?)

again, thanks you all you ladies, i'm gonna make it happen in time
