Oh donnalee, I totally feel you. I've been working on this move forever. And no matter what entry method I use, no matter how much I open my legs when I flip into the position, my hips never drop. The pole just gets kind of stuck between my thighs (and I don't even cross my ankles). So my superman still looks a lot like the one Leen Isabel drawn in her blog 😀

Boomloulou….does anyone know if she is still in the game? I remember that video and so many of her other ones. I can't believe it was that long ago!

I can't give many tips on the Superman. But for anyone who is first learning the Superman, I recommend practicing the hold first to get the feeling. From the plank dismount, reach back with one arm and then hold the Superman pose. It took me a little while to get over the burn. Once I got used to that and had the grip down, I taught myself the Cross-Ankle Release and the Superman from Gemini in the same practice session.

I agree! That is how i teach my students. U really need to build up the strength for this move!

This too was my Nemisis. It hurt! I get into superman by side climbing. Then I get into a Jasmine prep hold- my upper leg is bent at the knee in front of the pole gripping (knee hang) and my lower leg is extended straight toward the ceiling behind the pole. Next I re-grip my hands wide in a push pull grip. I straddle as wide as I can bringing my upper leg toward my face/shoulder and when I’m at my deepest stretch, the pole is now on my bum cheek, I flip and let my hips slide a bit toward the ground and Voila’ Superman!
Two main tips that worked for me was a deep V straddle and dropping my hips. I had to concentrate on letting my hips slide down otherwise, I would get stuck and my bum would be In the air and my head would be heading toward the ground and I could not arch my back.
Now getting out of superman?! I am working on two options. With a bent upper arm I can either pull back toward the pole into Figure Head or fold forward down toward the ground into pike, from pike Gemini or Scorpio. For this one you must be high enough on the pole to have room to bend forward.
Figure head hurts much less than folding into pike hold. I have gotten over the pain of superman and this hold over reminds me how much superman use to hurt.I have tried to get into superman from a basic invert into knee hang but I invert on my right side and my superman is held with my right arm up. I invert on my right side but use my left foot for climb. This happens to me with lots of tricks. I try to work both side in my pole practice, however I use the side that feels most natural for me.

While learning and practicing Superman, it was all awkward and painful. Eventually, it just happened. Now I can do it pretty easily. As I previously posted, I am now working on a graceful way to get out of it. I can now flip over from a side V, pretty easily and then…..I pose…..can bend one leg for beauty…..and then "stuck." I think the notion of letting my hips further drop as I first do a "v" split before flipping over may help me in lowering my hips and going into a Dove. I think some people call it figurehead. I got "Dove" stuck in my brain Maybe both descriptions are used. Anyway, I like reading these posts to learn how others are getting in and out of Superman : )

Yay good for you! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Since we have so many tips on the superman in this thread I'm gonna share what helped me get mine. I go into it from a side V. The key for me was to turn the bottom leg towards the floor in the side V, so that the pole already rests on the inside of that thigh. So when I turn my hips around it doesn't hurt the skin of that leg that much because it doesn't need to turn around. In all those months of trying before I got the superman I always tried it with the lower leg turned forward and it hurt soooo much to try to twist the hips around https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

The main difficulty is the flip over and part of that is because it's difficult to support and leverage with the lower arm while you separate your legs a bit before you flip.
After you try holding the superman pose from a plank dismount, for the next step get into superman from a side position on the pole, low to the floor. In this position instead of putting your lower arm on the pole, brace your lower hand on the floor as you turn over. Having your hand further from the pole makes it easier to support yourself through the turn so that you can maneuver your legs over.
Practicing from this point may help you then move on to where you can put your lower hand on the pole soon.

I use to get into it from the floor. id wrap on leg on the pole as if i was gonna do a side climb but instead of pushing with the lower foot side climb up id bring the lower leg behind the pole. Id hold on so hard with one hand above my top leg an the other hand under my leg thats behind the pole an just keep practicing flipping into the superman that way. sorry if that sounded confussing im not good with explaining! lol. but this way i was never ever scared of falling since i was right there near the floor lol.
