Great anniversary gift
I am usually a silent forum-browser. Making mental notes from all of your questions and answers and incorporating the advice. Shyness may have something to do with it… plus I feel like a bit of a dork for learning so slowly…
This year has been a HECTIC one for me – everyone knows how life in general can affect your best intentions of getting into a decent poling routine. I’m self-taught and don’t know any other polers (or people willing to become polers) in Jo’burg… South Africa is still relatively conservative (compared to the rest of the world) about the whole pole thing. Sadly.
BUT – today – on my one year pole anniversary, all by myself, I finally got the scorpio! Not only is this a physical obstacle overcome, but also a mental one. I have horrible vertigo, so being upside down is quite a challenge… needless to say, things are only looking up (down?) from here onwards!!
(The pic is of my very first scorpio – terrible form and everything, but I friggin DID IT!)So this pic is of my "victory", but also a token of appreciation for this community of people. Thank you for sharing yourselves, your advice, your love, and your love for poling. Here’s a little piece of me… for you.

Rautenbach! You are not alone! I’m also in Johannesburg, the lady I dance with has 8 poledance franchises around the country including Fourways, Fairlands, Rivonia, Edenvale and Ruimsig! We are doing a poledance competition next weekend and Jenyne Butterfly is coming out! Have a look for poledancing on Computicket, I’m sure there are still tickets available!

I’ve been dancing for just under a year and I’ve entered Amateur this year, so you’ll see me in the DVD, eek! I have my outfit nearly ready, my routine choreographed and nearly polished, just can’t always make the one move which is stressing me a bit!
Anyway, well done on the move, good luck with polishing it!

On Jamilla’s Art of Pole DVD’s, she talks about focus and attitude ~ I’m sure you’ve got the attitude https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif so just visualise yourself getting the move right just before you do it and I’m sure you’ll ace it.

that move is called a gemini. a scorpio would be if you were in the same position with the right leg hooked instead. in a scorpio the pole does not cross the tummy as in a gemini. but it looks really good!

Thanks. I’m sure many polers have had this conversation about the names, and there are many opposing corners about which moves are called what. Some polers call it scorpio, some call it gemini (and vice versa for the gemini vs scorpio). I called it scorpio based on Jamilla’s DVDs – but who cares. omg – the DVDs are AMAZING. Jamilla is just awesome. The instructions are solid and the whole set is top notch quality. She really did deserve the Instructor of the Year award she got.
