Handtwirls
I’d love to get everyone’s favorite handtwirl. These are such a basic move and yet something I struggle with. My brain has a hard time figuring out what others are doing, beyond the few variations I know.
Stargrrl is the queen of handtwirls. She just goes so fast I can’t figure it out! My next trip to Portland, I am just doing handtwirl privates with her!
Anyway, the ones I do:
Inside hand high, rotate on outside foot
Outside hand comes across palm up, grab in thumb webbing, rotate on outside foot
Two hands–inside high, outside right under it, rotate on outside foot

1st one at :05 is the inside hand, outside foot version
:26 is the outside hand, outside foot version
Starr is really loose about which hand, which foot—which is why it flows so beautifully….

A twirly transition that I really like and use a lot right now is a outside foot pirouette into a reverse grab spin.
So you start with your outside foot pirouette with your outside hand grabbing the pole low in a thumb down position. Extend your free leg as you spin under your inside arm. As you come under your top arm you will come to a point where the pole is directly behind you, at this point I readjust my high hand and go into a reverse grab spin.

I do that one a lot too, dustbunny. If you flip your top (inside) hand so it’s knuckles to the pole before you pirouette, the pole rolls right into your palm and you land in twisted grip, which is perfect for launching the reverse grab–so, you never need to adjust your top hand. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif It’s a fun one.
