I have carpet (big fluffy shag) at home and I LOVE practicing in shoes. I use shoes with NO grip on the carpet and shoes WITH grip on hardwood at the studio. It seems to balance out. So maybe all you need to do is buy more shoes? 🙂

lol getting shoes to match all my outfits in ones that will and won't slide on carpet would be more expensive then putting down hardwood 😉

I busted out laughing after scrounging the internet for 5 hours looking for a piece of flat shiny mat I saw on one of the Veener poler videos…I am all over the world looking for someone who would have the concept that I don't want it for protection I want it because I want to a smooth floor under my feet,,,
so i found what looked like a bunch of pretty pole intelligent people who understood what I was looking for so I quickly to h=go the forum,,,,,,,and it was ours. LOL maybe my poling home is the best place to find answere..lol

we cut a piece out of the carpet and put down flooring! Happy girl!
-
yeah but if she rents she cant cut out the piece of carpet just like that!
And you cant put a 4 by 8 under, it will break with the pressure from the pole and been uneven
here are my construction skills lol : I would make a platform (not high , like 3 inches) and put floating wood or vinyl (or whatever you like)

actually there is a veener that put 2 4×8's together after cutting a foot off one and connecting them together with brackets that puts the pole a foot in and it is working well for her. that is what i was going to do, but since my landlord (lol actually my dad) knows that the carpet in our house is way past its prime and will need to be replaced for new tenants he didn't care if I took out a section.

Nymph is referring to me. I made a subfloor over carpet with two pieces of plywood and used brackets underneath to hold them together. The plywood I used is the edged plywood that has grooves to fit together for a snug fit. I had to cut a foot off one piece due to room size otherwise my flooring would’ve been 8ftx8ft, I went with a 8ftx7ft floor and used hardwood peel & stick laminent over the plywood. Turned out perfect!

I put a chair mat down from staples business depot… I’m not sure where you are from. It cost me 75 for a 6×6 plastic mat. It’s the one with the picky things that go into your carpet. Then I just put it under my x pole. It works good and is pretty cheap.

I had this beautiful laminate flooring installed just a few months ago. It was really great for dance, but it was really loud and I live next door to a Marmaduke sized dog, and the walls are thin.
Then, accidentally, I had a small flood in my townhouse, it ruined a good part of the floor, making dancing on it not doable.
I got a deal on a huge plush rug with a 1/2 inch pad, it is great for dancing barefoot and the sound problem is almost nil.
Shoes with any grip however are a no go. Very frustrating because, in some ways I think I love the shoes just as much as the dance. I tried the tape but found it would just roll, I even bought the best tape that I could find at Home Depot, and still had the same problem.
I experimented on a cheaper pair of shoes. First I tried to wear them down on concrete, still not smooth enough for spins. So then I used a callous scrapper and went to town, a little better, but not what I was looking for. Finally, I got Krazy Glue and coated the bottoms. Bingo! Nice and smooth.
The next time I do this to a pair of shoes, however I will protect the sides with tape for any run down because I did get glue on the sides of the shoe (not a huge deal, it is clear) Also, if you do this be careful because when not on the carpet these shoes are not super slickery and dangerous.
I had to use an entire container of Krazy Glue for each shoe sole. I find it sold at the dollar store.
Happy Spinnin' 🙂

Kobajo that is so awesome!! I really want to try that – did you put the pole anywhere particular on those connected boards to keep the pressure stable? And could you explain a little more about how you connected the boards? That's a little confusing to me.
I'm going to DEFINITELY get my fiance' in on this project. I have always wanted wood flooring under my pole!

I JUST did this 2 days ago. I cut a hole in the middle of the seam between the 2 boards and “sandwiched” my pole inside. As for connecting the boards, I just stuck them together (they were toung and groove) duct taped at a few spots and ran electrical tape along the length of the seam. Then I covered the whole thing in vinyl tile. It’s pretty awesome if I do say so myself. It cost 140$ total. I hope that helps.

@ Lyme Lyte, I just checked out your floor and it looks awesome! I was advised against OSB for flooring, what did you use to keep it from disintegrating under your heels?

Well with three coats of paint and three coats of polyurathane, it is as tough as any other wood flooor. My jeels dont to a darn thing to it. It will be just fine! Lmk if u have other questons…..
