In short, soon I won’t have a place to put my pole anymore. (For the long story read my last blog post.)
Anyhow I’m curious how ya’ll have handled something like this. I’m thinking maybe I could find someone who’d like to pole too & would let me use it sometimes. Maybe someone with a spare room? (Is that a crazy idea?)

I’m probably also going to be joining a gym soon. Can anyone offer suggestions for exercises to take up when off the pole to feel good and ready when I can get back on it?

(Just replied to yr blog in more detail)
So sucks about sudden move drama, fire scare and no pole 🙁
You sound amazingly together about it though, damn well done.

OMG that is a lot of craziness… I’m glad you guys are ok and kudos to your positive attitude. Impressive and humbling. You are an embodiment of the calm in the center of the storm.

There are tons of really good bodyweight exercises you can do even without equipment. So any money you can save from going to gym the better! Here’s just a few!

    http://greatist.com/fitness/50-bodyweight-exercises-you-can-do-anywhere

And if you want an alternative to dumbbells, milk jugs filled with sand/dirt/etc make EXCELLENT dumbbells for a lot of exercises. And you can get a lot out if using a towel on the floor for exercises requiring sliding. Absolutely killer.

    Examples: http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?post=10_terrific_towel_exercises

And if you only have carpet to work with wherever you may be, sub a paper plate for the towel and you can do the exact same exercises!

Other than that…Pilates Pilates Pilates. Requires no equipment and you can find lots of tutorials online.

And maybe if you can scope out a playground somewhere you could go monkey around!

I’m happy things are okay! Mostly. Depending on where you are I’m betting there are some renter’s rights you can take advantage of, but it’s true, who would want to live under someone like that?

I’m interested in chair now based on the comments…=P I’d also suggest some of these yoga videos. They’re really well done and there are some (e.g. shoulder stability) that would work some good muscles you’ll need for pole when you can start up again!

I am amid a much much less dramatic hiatus with apartment repairs and began Stronglifts at my apartment complex gym as a general strength program with barbells.

Whew! Thanks for all the suggestions so far! It looks like I’ll still have plenty to work with without my pole.
@Tropical: I’m together and then start getting unglued and then somehow stay together etc…the actual eviction process here is ridiculous (If you lose at the hearing they give you 24 hrs to get out!) Who on earth would risk that? I feel like we’re taking it into our own hands, and that makes me feel tough & capable. Hopefully this mindset holds up!

@Flighter: Extreme chaos does make me get calm (on the other hand I freak out over pointless little dribbles.) I had a bad depression recently where regaurdless of the circumstance everything seemed terrible. Now that I’m out of that, even though the circumstance actually IS terrible I’m just glad I don’t feel depressed anymore! I loovee the jug idea! And the paper plates!!! really creative suggestions!

@Muroo: Me too! I’ve been calling law offices today just to get some perspective. I’m in the deep south of the u.s. and the laws here are pretty awful. Thank you so much for the yoga video recommendation, I was thinking of yoga but there’s so much of it I didn’t know where to start. How long are you on hiatus for?

@Baglady Can relate to the peculiar peace in chaors…when a big problem comes along an eerie calm floats in and takes over. I’ve always wondered if its because little problems seem like they are just barely out of control so is so ridiculous its happening. Whereas big problems its like, well, this is happening no matter what so may as well do what I can given the situation. All we can do is take responsibility for how we respond to it, and move forward one step at a time.

But yeah eerie calm when the world comes crashing down around you. Grace under fire. Its kind of a good thing to have. Also, with depression, I feel like when something big happens its almost as if the feelings of everything being terrible are validated by this one thing being ACTUALLY terrible. Like you feel a a little less crazy and now there’s something to focus on vs floundering in inexplicable depression, knowing it makes no sense, which just makes you more depressed. Anyways, this all may sound nuts, but I have serious bouts of this kind of thing and sometimes its nice to know other people feel like that too (usually more often than they care to admit). Glad that you’re out of the mental storm and into a tangible one (not GLAD, but well, you know what I mean…). You are quite the strong lady.

Good luck with all the ridiculousness and if you see your old place posted on craigslist or something I would post something related to it letting people know that the landlord is shady and to check water heaters and every nook and cranny…Not sure if you can do that…but if you can…just a thought. For the safety of those people and for the fact that landlord should have to be up to code. As a Texan, can confirm the renters laws in the south are rubbish. I’ve got some friends that rent out houses and are pretty well versed in that stuff, maybe they’ll have some helpful info to share. Not exactly sure what state you’re in but worth a shot

I’m so sorry all this craziness is happening. Sounds like you have a great outlook on things.

As far as pole goes…. I really did want to put up a pole outside. I felt like there must be a way to mount one like a flagpole. Maybe a powder coated one wouldn’t rust and have good grip… Or maybe making a mount deep in the ground that a pole can be put in or out of… But the more I started thinking the more complex it became and I just ended up getting a used stage pole on Craigslist for when I want to pole outside. 🙂

Maybe a rig or a used stage pole would work and cost less then a gym membership?!
