  • Having trouble getting hands off pole for inside leg hang/gemini

I am teaching gemini/inside leg hang in one of my classes but my students are having trouble getting their hands out of the way. They keep getting them stuck under their leg or they just feel like they can't pull their hands off. Any tips? I've had them try going into it with their hands lower down and some of them got it but some are still struggling. Is there a better way to explain this to them??

This one for me is easier to go into switching from an outside leg hang first.  For some reason it is difficult for me to get the pole just in the right place.  I have to start this with the pole right in the sweet spot on my waist or it will never happen.

I practice this one from the ground as a stretch.  I have them lay on the ground with the pole at their side and their knees bent.  I then have them bring that inside leg into position and then try to lower/straighten the outside leg.

That may be because they are not getting the pole into their side. Did you see Felix’s recent sample video from the DVD about the outside leg hang? She teaches it how I do. If the pole is going across your stomach, like if you don’t have your belly button pointed up with the pole pressed to your side and it’s pressing across your belly button, there’s no room for your hands. You really have to almost think of hooking that outside knee and turning the body away from the pole to get the torso to settle upright. When the torso is in the right position, there should be a gap between the hooked leg and where the pole contacts the torso.

Outside leg hang you really need to have the free leg as far away from the pole as possible to give the counter balance.  It really helps if you have a super strong invert.  You hips need to be at the pole before wrapping the legs at all.  If your hips are up there and your body/legs straight it is nearly impossible to have your hands in the way.

    Crap posted too soon.

And that gap is where the hands go. If they’re inverting and hooking the leg with the body facing the pole, it’s hard to get in the right position. If the body is sideways in the invert like in a chopper, where the tummy is pointing straight up and the leg hooks from there, it’s easier.
