Headaches
Posted by Foxy_Rei on February 11, 2010 at 12:04 amSemi-random silly question: how many headaches are normal? Are headaches normal at all? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

I’m an nurse, not a headache specialist but…I think you may be having migraines. One of the symptoms of a migraine is the nausea. if you’re having bad headaches once a week I think that’s pretty frequent and not normal. Headaches or migraines can be brought on by many things and stress is a major factor.
I think you should make a trip to the doctor about your headaches and see if there is something you could do. It’s not cool to be in pain. Ever. -
I would say every night headaches aren’t normal. For a long time I would get migraines on a regular basis; wouldn’t wish them on my worse enemy. No one was ever able to do much for mine, and they eventually lessened (hormones? diet? atmospheric pressure? pick one, who knows?). Still, if I were you I’d see a doctor about it. Normal headaches don’t typically come with nausea.

You say you have a poor diet and anxiety/stress issues. If that’s the case I’d say Sissy was right and these are migraines. Migraines are treatable by doctors and other specialists.
This rest of this post is gonna sound like some kinda of infomercial but I’ll say it anyway… because it’s true! A good friend of mine suffered from migraines for 20 years. She was taking 6-8 pain relief tablets every day, she sought help from chiropractors, physiotherapists, a naturopath and even a neurosurgeon! Nothing helped her. Then she started using these "Herbalife" products (they’re basically vitamin and mineral supplements). Aside from their advertised side effects (losing excess weight, getting an energy and vitality boost etc) she found her migraines also stopped!
She swears by them, so if you’re interested, you should do a Google search for Herbalife distributors in your area. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Sorry you’re having all these headaches, but from what you’re saying, I’d say it’s totally normal. Some people are just headachy people. It often runs in families, and can just be the way your body and mind manifests stress or anxiety. If you were to get a sharp headache with a sudden onset, that is unbearably painful, then I’d worry.
You say typical painkillers don’t help. Sometimes this may be a sign that you’re having migraine rather than just a headache, has your doc looked into that? Also, headaches could indicate chronic sinusitis. These are just things you could mention, or look up and see if it’s a possibility, as if you have either, there could be different meds that could help. Otherwise, my advice would be to try and find a way to better manage your anxiety, and maybe that will help your headaches.
Oh! one more thing you probably know is that dehydration can cause headaches too, so make sure you keep hydrated https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Hope you feel better, and don’t worry! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Definitely go to your doctor. I had a doc I didn’t like either, you must change! Maybe go to a health centre instead of a single doc, so you can switch easily between doctors, without having to have your files moved. Also, for your anxiety you could try Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It’s a fairly new thing that involves changing the way you think and act in a way that can ease your anxiety. It doesn’t involve meds at all, so you won’t have to worry about side effects. It’s just a way to learn new coping techniques. You may as well go tomorrow, i’m sure you’ll be glad you did https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Umm you need to go to a doctor miss lady! Find yourself a new one, talk to your friends/family who have a doctor they like and maybe someone can refer you and hopefully its within your insurance, otherwise just go to one of those sliding scale clinic places. A lot of people turn their nose down at those but my ex was really sick and didnt have insurance so he went to one, got prescribed generic meds and was better in a few days all for less than $20. My family is the opposite in that we will go to the doctor at the slightest onset of pain or discomfort, which probably is extreme but I had symptomless HPV and if I hadn’t gone to the gyno for my first pap at 18 I would probably be quite far down the road to cervical cancer right now. I dont mean to scare you but it’s really better to be safe than sorry so you dont end up ignoring something that could potentially be serious.
As far as the headaches, I have been a long time sufferer of them too except I get these things called "cluster headaches" that are like sharp intense pain over and over so its not the same as a migraine but they are for sure stress related, I can literally chart the times in my life that I’ve had them and link them to some sort of major stress going on. So if you can find some ways to relieve your stress naturally…I’m sure it’s hard with your hubby and daughter and working but for me poling is a stress reliever, as is hot bubble baths with a glass of wine/dark chocolate/some kind of tasty treat, etc. I’ve heard yoga is awesome but I have yet to try it although I’m sure I’d be a much better poler if I did it!

Definitely see your doctor but low blood sugar could be a cause as well especially if you are not eating until the end of the day…try eating breakfast and lunch regularly to see if this helps.

I can sympathise with you on the headaches, I get them quite often too. As the others have said, definitely go see your doctor. And eat regularly!! I find that eating helps. It also seems to help the painkillers work, in my case anyway… I can only take ibuprofen and that hardly helps when it’s a bad one. The doctor gave me some super-painkillers and they just made me sicker so I quit with those. I had a scan but they told me I don’t have frontal sinuses (which I believe is a load of rubbish but hey I’m not the doctor) so I can’t give you any recommendations there. The only thing I’ve found so far which helps is eat regularly, drink plenty of water, and for pain relief acupuncture has been wonderful. This comes from a girl terrified of needles!! Oh and perhaps try to be in a comfortably cool temperature. Warm stuffy rooms bring on a headache for me in minutes.
Anyhow good luck, and tell us how it went!

Adding to what everyone has already mention, I wanted to say what worked for me.
I used to get migraines often (1-2) a week. I did a lot of research b/c doctors kinda dismiss headaches or try to give you meds that I wont take. I had a friend die from taking them, she went to sleep with a migraine and never woke up, she was in her 20’s… so I refuse to take them. The most helpful for me was keeping a consistent schedule. I go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekend. If I stay up late I will 95% of the time end up with a migraine. Same with food. Keep snacks on you if you cant always go to lunch at the same time. This cut my headaches by 50% right away.
I am on progestin only pills (POP) it is the only pill I can take b/c of headaches. I switched doctors and she literally freaked out and put me on this when I mentioned migraine. This has also reduced headaches.
I have headache trackers and other info if you’d like me to send you some info. Triggers are all different but I think the consistent schedule and BC pills are a big one to address! Good luck.
