Hey all, I’m a Grad student from Illinois, formerly of Vermont (hence the nickname) and my performance art of choice used to be beauty pageants ;P Having moved on from that, I’ve been watching all of Veena’s videos and measuring my ceilings for my first pole! In the meantime, I’ve been doing lots of yoga and modern dance, with some weight training in preparation.

I’ll be 29 this winter, and my goal is to have one hell of a performance ready for my 30th birthday!

Anywhoo, I’m excited to get started but want to be sure and get the correct pole first, and be in good enough shape like I used to be before I started school again… Computers are such a deathwish for your waistline!

So anything else I need to look into before starting?

welcome! it will be exciting when you get your pole and get to it! i don’t know what pole you are going to get but most people recommend the X-Pole or Lil Mynx, in that order i think. i have a lil mynx and i love it! Veena’s vids are AWESOME! i don’t know if you got her lessons but honestly if you are not taking classes somewhere, i would reccomend her lessons anytime! everything i’ve learned has been from her and all the fab people on this site https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif i’m sure you’ll make lots of friends here!

    Hello and welcome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
All the things you are doing in preparation for your pole are great things to be doing. I dont know what your flexibility is like but might I recommend that you work a little on that as it will help you with making some of the spins and tricks even more polished and pretty.
As jennydacat has said, X-Pole and Lil Mynx seem to be the most recommended pole. I have an x-pole and I love it. In the Forums there is a section called ‘Dance Poles’, you should check that out.
Best of luck! We look forward to seeing your progress.

My X pole should be here Friday… 45mm Titanium… unfortunately, I have to shoot a wedding Saturday and will be thinking about putting the dang thing up all day! The Fiance (also known as Mr. Slave https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif) is clearing out our living room to make room, and I’ve been dancing around, stretching, and even joined a gym this week. He thought I was crazy when I took up piano lessons this summer, but I’m on a roll. I’m tired of feeling like I don’t have time outside of school/work to do things I enjoy! 6 more months until I birth my thesis baby, I can’t wait to have my life back….

I have about 15 lbs of extra grad school weight that I’m carrying, so I can’t imagine posting videos until I know how to do somethings and won’t look like a chunk while doing it! However, I’m wondering if there are any pole dancers out there who also do performance art or modern dance, and if they’ve incorporated into their pole work? I’ve done a lot of choreography and performance work (drag shows and pageants!) and want to find a way to be creative while I work on the technical things…

    I’m so excited!!!

Nice to meet you all, I wish I were in the Chicago area and could take lessons! Sadly, I am in Central Illinois…

Just got my pole today (it’s titanium, still wish I had gone with the chrome, oh well!) and have to find a new place to put it… Maybe my artist’s studio!
