Im new here, and a beginner in poledancing.

Im having big difficulties to get a grip on the pole when im trying to lift my body up. Can anyone give me som tips so i can learn this or getting a better grip? :p  I have bought the X pole sport pole, and have installed it at home.

Im a heavy girl (242 lbs),  can that be the reason? Or should I consentrate on building up my body strength?  Im trying to lose weigth, thats why I want to poledance! And its fun! 😀

How long have you been doing this?  I highly recommend Veena's lessons; they really are pretty inexpensive.  There are many thing that come into play when you are trying to hold yourself on the pole, not just one particular thing.  V's strength and conditioning lessons will get you there.

Thank you for the quick answer 🙂

The best way I've found is to do strength training  and cardio with pole. It's great for building muscle which speeds the weightloss process up (the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn on a daily basis). I'm doing pole for weightloss as well and its helped me lose 13 lbs. The one most important thing to understand is everyone progresses at their own rate. I used to compare myself to others in the beginning and it was really discouraging for me. Once I accepted that it was going to take me longer before I could do certain tricks because I had more weight to lift, I became happier.

Hi actually! As Chem mentioned I have strength and conditioning lessons. If you have signed up for the lessons be sure to start by watching each of the Getting Started videos at the beginning of each section. They will give you ideas on how to plan your pole sessions. Also, all lessons are place in order with a focus on strength building first, so there is no need to jump around trying to figure out what to work on next. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Building strength is key. I started pole last year and had a hard time doing just spins…I would slide right down the pole. I only weigh around 135 and don't have enough strength to pick myself up off the ground. So I did personal training for about 3 months and came back to the pole and the spins were alot easier…however I still can't do inverts or anything. It's tough..some people pick it up easier….I'm not one of them!! Hang in there..you'll get it!
