Help! pole climb :(
Posted by ytcitina4903 on July 31, 2015 at 8:38 pmHi everyone,
I started pole early this month and, I get really frustrated everytime we do climbs because i always get SO much pain on my shin bones! I could do one climb but my shin hurts like hell and I always get a big red patch on my shin after that…Am I doing it wrong? Or is it normal to hurt on the shin? Really frustrated T.T thanks!!!

I can only do one climb to, it never hurts my shin though, you could be doing something wrong, it’s normal for the pain to be on your foot, your probably putting to much pressure on your shin. I’m sure the other ladies can give you more info..

Do you have the Veena lessons? I think your points of contact might not be correct. I don’t use my shins at all. I’m right hand dominate, so when I climb, my right foot goes behind the pole. I press my right inner thigh close to the knee, but not on the knee, into the pole and it also goes across the top of my foot right foot/ankle-ish. My left ankle/top of foot comes around to the front to meet my right foot, and I lock into the climb by squeezing my knees Together, which takes the pressure off my ankles/top of feet. When I first started the tops of my feet bruised. Veena explains it the best. You should try with left leg behind and right coming to the front too. Even if you attend studio these lessons are awesome and helpful, and for 100 for a year or 79 if she has a deal it’s worth it.

In the photo above the pole should prob be a little more up on my thigh away from the knee joint, but not much more

Tesar, thanks so much!! I just watched the video and tried it again, this time it doesnt hurt as much..but still hurt a little bit maybe cuz its bruised there, yet I know the pressure is off my shin.
I kinda have more idea what it should be like now :)! I was really desperate to try it out so i tried it on a “pole” at the children’s playground downstairs XD! Thanks so much for all the tips and pictures, I hope I will be able to do it better next class!
Ps lovely boxers :p

Learning how to climb does hurt a lil but thats pole dancing. For you there is always bruises. But if it hurts to bad most likely your not doing something right or you dont have a high pain tolerance. But keep it up i watch these videos and youtube

YouTube isn’t always the best place to learn a move, I suggest you should get the lessons here they are worth it.. I have seen on YouTube that they say a move is a beginner and it’s not, if you can’t afford the lessons yet I prefer emotion catcher on YT and she use to use this site, so I would suggest her videos and she owns her own studio now, good luck

Yes, as you can see from everyone help, don’t be shy about using between the knees to help with climbs! Also remember that the lessons here are placed in a progressive order so working on moves listed before the Basic Pole climb will be very helpful in allowing you to build the proper strength and technique needed to climb. Check out my training course as well it’s FREE and it’s a great read for anyone who loves pole. 🙂 https://www.studioveena.com/methods/letter

I used to bruise a lot from climbing when I was new too. As your placement and strength improve, and as your body becomes more accustomed to coming in contact with the pole, the bruising will lessen. I remember having to ice my shins after my first few classes.
