  • Help with Leg Hang Switches (left side to right side)

Posted by MichelleH on September 30, 2011 at 4:46 am

Hello dear pole friends! I have been captivated, moved, bewitched by a move that I haven't don't before and I need help breaking it down.

Veena does it in her Bad Kitty romper video, I can only think to call it a leg hang switch. She starts from an outside leg hang, brings her inside leg forward, moves her body to the other side of the pole, into inside leg hang. She continues to switch sides and sometimes switching from inside leg hang to outside leg hang as well.

So my question is: I can do outside leg hang, inside leg hang and outside leg hang to one leg hold on my good side, but I can't do these on my weak side. Would this progression make sense to learn this move?

    – invert no hands on weak side

    – outside and inside leg hang on weak side

    – outside leg hang to one leg hold on weak side

    – THEN do the switches

Any tips and tricks from people that can do this move?

    I LOVE having a goal!!

by "invert no hands on weak side" do you mean no-handed chopper/thigh hold, or do you actually mean inverting with no hands? =D

i think if you work leg hangs, switches, and thigh hold on your "bad" side, you'll be fine.

one important point: when you switch from the thigh hold to opposite side inside leg hang, you initiate the switch by moving your torso and getting your armpit on the pole, but you will have a very hooked knee and you'll come through with a very upright torso… you need to let the knee hang "unwind" and send energy back through your free leg as you move it back from thigh hold to leg hang position to settle into the pose so you don't get "stuck". i would recommend working a very hooked inside leg hang from a chopper and "settling" into the more straightened inside leg hang to get comfy with this action. i hope that makes sense??? good luck!

Thanks Amy, naming protocol strikes again! I meant normal invert, then let go of hands so I can face the pole with my body square to the pole.

YES! That was EXACTLY the problem we were having! It hurts so much trying to get your arm around the pole because your leg is hooked too tight! OK, at class tomorrow, will practice!

Thanks Veena, will watch the video now (super inspired and excited!)

Thanks Amy! I'm embarassed to admit that I never invert on my weak side so I am just starting with that! Going to be a bit of a learning curve, my foot that's hooked is feeling it, my side, taking my hands off is scary. It's like starting over!

    But I have a goal 😉

Veena, your video was VERY helpful thanks! I've inspired 2 other girls to practice and get this move and it was great to show them your video on my Tab at class last night!

Slooooowly progressing with invert on the weak side. I think this trick will take some time to get. It's wierd having a trick that is within my ability in that I am strong in both leg hangs, yet still quite far away as I don't work my weak side. There's a lesson that I've learnt!

I always practice every move on both sides. That way you will build up strength on both sides.

Thanks ladies. Isn’t it amazing how sometimes we have to really hit our heads against a wall to see the benefit of something like practicing moves on both sides?! Well practice continues. This weekend I was lucky enough to have a workshop with Becca Butcher and she taught us the Holly Drop. Of course I drop onto the weak side, so my bruising is developing nicely, chuckle!
