lionstf, how secure do you feel with your grip in this position? I found that I was not able to get a good jade till I found just the right grip. if you feel like you could slip at any moment then I wouldn’t even bother with trying to flatten it until you have a rock solid grip. Like, you should be able to really hang out in that position for a while. the best tip I ever got for jade was from Veena’s lesson. she said to slightly turn the torso away from the pole. when I did that, I had a good grip. everybody else was telling me to face the pole, even instructors, and I almost fell everytime they told me to do that. I guess they wanted to kill me or something….but I digress. of course more flexibility always helps, but you know you don’t need a flat split to cheat this. when I do jade, I am using every muscle in my body and I am pouring sweat. it doesn’t look like such a muscular move but it is for me. I have to really pull the leg down and to the opposite shoulder. like whatever you think is pulling hard enough probably isn’t enough. that being said, only you know your flexibility and how hard you can pull on that leg. please don’t crank on it and injure it. I lay on the floor on my back and stretch that leg by pulling up to my ear. almost like a bird of paradise stretch. I take note of how far I can get my leg when I’m on the ground so when I m on the pole, I know I have to pull harder to get my leg to that point because the pole is preventing it from fully extending where I want. but if I pull harder I CAN get that leg down further. this takes a lot of strength to hold. then I really press that other arm/arm pit into the pole. that hand that is on my booty is forcefully pushing my hip up and into the pole. this also takes a lot of strength. so right now, both of your arms are doing different things and they are taking a lot of strength to do. while your arms arm are in position. turn your chest AWAY from the pole. it probably wont actually turn in that direction. but use your muscles with the intention of turning away from the pole. it helps to invert the way you did in the pictures, if you turn your head to the mirror to look at yourself you will be turning away from the pole and this will help you. once all that is secure you push that back leg down, HARD. this takes a lot of muscle in your glute. really focus on turning your hip out to do an un-square split. also, you might want to bring your torso up a little higher before doing all this. I squeeze my torso up toward my leg. veena really does have the best lesson for this and I cant really explain things better than that. but aerialamy also has an illustration for how you really want an unsquare split and that illustration helped a lot also. again, if you are not secure with your grip and you might fall you wont be able to flatten it out. so I think the key to getting a flat jade starts with getting a rock solid grip with jade. not to say you don’t have that already. you might. but I see a lot of people wanting flat jades and they are almost falling to their demise every time they get in one. they scare me. 🙂 but yes,I find that every muscle in my body works to hold this flat and you can literally see muscles, sweat, and veins popping out on me.

also, how do you get into your jade. I find that I can get it better from a pike. some people get it better with a Gemini.

Tropical vertical just helped me with this. My jade looked exactly like yours but i fixed it in about 10 minutes. She said to straighten the top leg as your straightening the bottom leg–straighten them at the same time as the bottom leg is making its journey to behind you. That fixed my problem. Also squeeze like a mother and shove that hand into your hip real good.
