@ennfier2277: it's hard finding that one (or many) motivation(s) to help you keep a healthy diet and exercise reigmen. For me, it got to a point where I just COULDN'T take it anymore: my pants were so uncomfortable, I hated looking in the mirror, and I constantly felt fatigued. I'd say poling was my motivation, since it requires me to be scantily clad in front of a mirror for extended periods, contorting my body in all sorts of ways.

Changing my diet was discouraging and stressful at first, because I wanted immediate results, and I was so used to eating crap all the time. Your body will adjust, though, and your cravings for crappy food will decrease (though it may never go away – which is fine!).

Understand and accept that you will go through an experimental phase. It will take time (weeks?months?) to find what works for you, and what will keep you going.

Perhaps the key to staying on track is to find healthier foods that satiate your cravings. For instance, if I want something sweet, I try to opt for chewing gum, drinking fruity tea, hot chocolate, or adding honey stuff.

It's so easy for food-related things to become stressful and obsessive! Maybe you could practice working out or simply stretching when you get that urge to "emotional binge." Emotional binges are probably the hardest urge to break (I did it all the time when I was a teen).

The good news is that poling gets you in amazing shape, especially if you include a lot of cardio. However, for most people, diet will play a huge role in obtaining that toned, defined look.

Once I started adding more dancing (cardio) to my poling and cutting out most crappy food, I noticed a HUGE difference in how I looked and felt. I no longer cringe when I look in the mirror, and my pants fit again! Plus I have more energy.

The diet that is working for me so far:

-cutting out processed crap (deli meat, chips, cookies, etc.)

-reducing salt, sugar, and saturated fat

    -drinking lots of water, tea

    -no more binge drinking!

p.s. constantly weighing yourself and counting calories and food groups may get stressful and discouraging. . .it probably works for some people, though.

    Some solid advice ladies 🙂

I've personally had the best luck (and have physically felt the best) eating clean. My body doesn't feel like it's missing anything and because it's such a blanced way of eating, I have ENERGY!

The eat clean website is pretty inspiring too, whether you want to take off 100lbs or just the last 5lbs -10lbs, the online community (much like this one) rallys together to cheer eachother on and help eachother out.  (www.eatcleandiet.com).

I don't really know why it's classified as a "diet" as it's not something that you do for a few weeks until you lose X amount of weight, only to go back to your regular eating habits. It's kind of a lifestyle change.

Love the fact that the recipes are pretty much twists on everyday things you'd eat, with a few more exotic recipes thrown in for good measure.

    Just an opinion 🙂

    Great advice everyone!

I'll def chime in with Sair, eating clean works!  I fell off the wagon of eating clean and man did my body respond in a bad way, I gained 10 pounds just like that and am near close to having insomnia again.  Eating clean keeps your body satisfied on what it needs, the concept is that when you eat processed food, your body soon sends hunger signals again because the nurients it needs are not being met, but when you eat whole foods, such as fruits, veggies, whole grains, avoid white refined sugars breads and pastas, drink plenty of water and avoid atificial sweeteners, something amazing happens….your body is back to optimal function and you have energy, many find they get better rest, hormones becomes balanced and the weight will fall off at about 2 pounds a week, all without calorie counting!

I go on the eating clean website from time to time for recipe ideas and inspiring stories, but mainly I just eat when I am hungry (I am a big eater too!) eat whole grain pasta, bread, fruits, veggies, chicken, eggs. nuts, stirfrys…you name it and the weight comes off!  Its not a "diet" just like Sair said, its common sense eating somehow ppl made a way to market that lol

Also…I go to http://www.thegraciouspantry.com/  for great eating clean recipe when ever I feel I need a recipe change…Im not just talking salad here, she has recipes for brownies, muffins, cherry pie, cinnamon rolls…you name it…all without processed foods, all whole grain, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners!

I think the hardest part of permanent healthy eating is that once you allow yourself to slip, you have to be strong enough to nip it in the bud.  Like so many otheres here have said, allow yourself to cheat so you dont feel deprived but enough consistant cheating can wreck a healthy eating plan…its all about balance!

Also I highly recomend Jillian Michaels Master Your Metabolism book, for me this book was way way way more informative than the eating clean book, she gets into a lot of info on why avoiding processed foods is the key to losing weight, and she doesnt push calorie counting in this book either, well not so much she emntions to eat between 1800-2000 calories…but thats standard advice anyways.  I am NOT a fan of counting cals if ya can tell https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif  Its too much work!

Jillians book is great, I am known to have a sluggish thyroid so I make sure to eat more foods that boost thyroid and less that drag it down.

I'm a semi-clean eater lol. I try to do mostly clean eating but when things like girl scout cookies come around I don't deny myself. 🙂

LAdies, there is a new Protein for pole dancers out now called Poletein. It's all natural, lactose free and is formulated especially for the pole athlete in mind. It is a wonderful addition to healthy eating to protect your body and help build the muscle you are using while pole dancing. Our studio has a group of women on a weight loss challenge and are also using the poletein. It has made great improvements to our performance and goal of becoming leaner and stronger. It also donates some of it's proceeds to a wonderful charity  called VIxens agains violence. Please read more at http://www.polesoul.com  You will see more of it at USPDF and Convention this year.
