Hi I’m Em
Hi all,
Just thought I’d pop in and introduce myself. I’m Emma and just managed to snag a good 45mm X-pole second hand, it should be arriving any day now, and I was googling all sorts of pole videos and so forth when I found this site.
I haven’t danced in around 6 years but I worked the the industry on and off for around 12 years, from my mid 20’s to just around the time I turned 40 (although I had several years off after having my daughter).I was never a strong pole dancer- basic moves like the helicopter, spins and so on was the extent of it- the best girls on the poles were always ex-gymnasts or dancers and I don’t have that background, so it never came as easily to be as it did those gals. I never had any proper training and really just learnt as I went along and got some tips from the more experienced performers and that was it.
I do however have experience dancing on stage and so am comfortable with the pole and am used to using transitions etc throughout my sets.I am stoked to have managed to find a genuine x-pole (pre 2014 model but with microbase) because I do plan to do inversion work and really wanted something I can trust.
I went for 45mm because I have small hands and never liked working on larger diameter poles and will probably buy a 40mm pole to use also as I think it could be handy for certain grips as time goes on. An added bonus it that the pole is both static and spinning, although I don’t have much experience with spinning poles as most clubs use static brass, so I’m really looking forward to having the option to use it both. Now I’m just figuring out whether to grab some dry hands or similar as I have always had a problem with being way too sweaty and maybe some stretching tools and I’m ready to go 🙂
I will be enrolling in my local Pole Divas school in a month or so, after I’ve increased my strength and lost some of this jelly belly, simply because I can’t judge my own form the way someone observing me can and because I want to try moves that would be best done under supervision.
Also, I have had 3 major orthopedic surgeries in the last 3 years resulting in bone grafts, major plating and 15 screws holding my fractured pelvis together and I also have mild EDS (Elhers Danlos Syndrome) which means my joints are a little too loosey goosey, so my left leg has some muscle weakness and limited mobility in some areas.
Mind you, I have always been kinda flexible with my hips- I also have hip dysplasia- so I would like someone to see what the issues are and help me work on them (or around them depending on how it looks) and working alone at home won’t give me that oversight. But, regardless of if I am dancing at a studio or not, this site looks like a treasure trove of fantastic information and workshops, so I’m really looking forward to learning lots here.
I look forward to sharing my journey with you and watching you all on yours 🙂
Emma x
