Any advice on how to heal a hip flexor injury and how long it takes to heal??

I hurt my hip flexor while doing a kick when I wasn’t properly warmed up. I have been dealing with this injury for about month now and have taken all the necessary steps for the healing process (RICE – Rest Ice Compression and Elevation), as well as light stretching/exercises, foam rolling, applying KT tape, taking MSM powder and Vitamin C supplements … but it just doesn’t seem like it’s healing.

Has Anybody else suffered from this injury before?? And how did you go about the healing process? Does it just take really long to go away? Missing my pole classes too much!

I injured mine back in June. It’s been nearly four months and it is just now not bothering me as frequently. I can do most things without it hurting, but there are still moves that I am definitely very aware of it. I am super careful when stretching it and make sure I am extra warm before I start anything that might injure it again. It seems to just take quite a long while to heal up 100%. Probably because it’s difficult to totally rest it? I took three weeks off of pole and had mine taped up with Kinesio tape. I couldn’t tape it for very long because I am allergic to adhesives on tapes. But I did it for as long as I could tolerate it. Also resting and icing it. It improved for sure…but still doesn’t feel back to 100% Hope you get to feeling some relief soon.

I too had a similar injury. It takes a couple of months, I stopped doing pole and cut down on the gym to give it a rest. It got much better but recently it’s started to hurt again but that is due to me overworking. I found regular light stretching, using the foam roller helped to improve things, consistency is the key so stick with what you are doing and you should begin to see an improvement. Wishing you better.

    Hi Ladies!

Thank you so much for your responses, I appreciate it.

It sounds like it just takes quite a while to heal, so better I just be patient and let it run its course.

    Thanks guys 🙂

These things can take forever it seems, and sometimes the more we try to fix them the more we end up just irritating them!

One thing to be aware of when dancing or doing re-hab on it is the position of your pelvis, this can dramatically affect the stability and mobility of the hip and flexors and extensors of the hip.
