Hip Toning
Posted by New Zealand Mum on September 26, 2015 at 2:40 pmHi there. My name is Megan and I am new to Veena and I love absolutely love it. My question is that I struggle to tone up/loose the extra weight I carry on my hips. My tummy and hips have always been my problem area but I can’t seem to tone my hips. Are there any particular strength/toning exercises that work on the area that I can include in my workout?

Unfortunately, spot-reducing is a myth, and it’s simply not possible to target a certain area of the body and intend for that area to lose fat.
Engaging in appropriate cardio workout, strength training (such as pole), and a healthy diet is the way to go, but cannot necessarily guarantee the exact results you’re looking for.
For some people, it’s very difficult to lose more weight than what they already have done, and the more you lose, the harder it is to lose yet more of it. Many women (though, not all) find that the tummy and hips are places where we keep fat, and that is simply a matter of your genetics. Fat stored on the hips can also help retain estrogen, which will make menopause easier to go through. However, other women find that this area is easy to slim down, and the rest is not- it’s all down to your genetics. So, my suggestion is to engage in a balanced, healthy lifestyle where you are happy with what you are able to do, you are happy with your physical abilities, and that you are happy with how strong you are. And, then to take the time to realize that, for many people, some fat is healthier than none at all. You are beautiful, and it has nothing to do with your hips or belly having a little fat on them.

Runmist is correct, you can’t spot reduce body fat. Everyone’s bodies loose fat differently and for some that means hips last, others belly last and so on.
If you want to strengthen the hips you’ll find options in the lessons for that. Read descriptions to see what muscles are strengthened. Booty lift, booty squeeze and hip flexor lift are all good for strength and stability. The best way to reduce body fat is diet and exercise that raises the heart rate. The routines here that are not flexibility based would be great cardio. 💜

Thanks for the feedback! I was hoping I could focus on my hips like people focus on their arms, legs and tummies. However, I will keep going on my new goal (training 1 to 3 times a week) and see where that takes me! I can feel my strength coming back after a down period and every time I do a new move (even if it doesn’t look very pretty at first) my confidence grows….I absolutely love my pole and this awesome community…thanks again 🙂

You can target any area for strengthening or flexibility but you cannot targe a specific area for weight loss. 😊
