Hey everyone 🙂 SO summer has me totally off track as far as my eating goes 🙁 I eat clean usually but slacked off a bit and well lets just say gained a few un wanted pounds.  About 10 to be exact.  I had taken my pole down over a month ago because I had the landlord over for a few repairs and he was in and out for a couple weeks, I got lazy and never put it back up until now lol!   But woohoo I felt the sweat, yay for POLE!!  Anyways back to my original question I want to inocraporate some added cardio by hoop dancing, I was inspired by a few vids on youtube including an awesome Veena one https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BD_KWrAnAU )  So I plunged and bought a dance hoop off of etsy and cant wait to get it!!!  But as far as instructionals go I want to get the Hoopnotica DVD's both level 1 and 2 for now…anyone have any feed back, are they good…easy to learn from? I dont have too much money to spend they seem okay in price but a few reviews said level one was too basic while others said not to get level 2 unless you mastered level 1, and a few others said both are basically the same moves, just lev 2 moves faster.

So any hoopers have purchasing suggestions or reviews on the series??

THANK YOU VEENERS…happy poling (and hooping lol)

I have both of these dvds and really they are good, clear instruction and troubleshooting. Nicely produced and classy but truthfully you don’t need them. Save your money and check out some of the better done free tutorials on YouTube. The user that first comes to mind I believe is babzrobinson and be sure to check out hooping.org and hoopcity.ca for tons of user submitted tutorials, all free. Cristobel Zamour also has good dvds too if you decide that you do want a dvd library anyway. But it is more about doing the lessons than ‘owning’ them, right? 🙂

    Hi mrsbaybeegurl,

I started learning hooping from the Hoopnotica DVDs and I love them.

The moves are basic and not very many on each DVD (compared to the Hoopgirl DVD, for example), but they are very well broken down and include a very helpful troubleshooting section for each move.

I find them comparable to Veena's pole lessons in terms of explaining body positioning, points of contact (aka points where to push into the hoop) and progressions how to get to the full move – if you like Veena's, you'll like hoopnotica.

If you pick up moves quickly from just watching someone do it with not that much explanations, then you might like the Hoopgirl  DVD better.

And after learning from the DVDs for a while I took a hoop class and learned more in one session than on both DVDs together – but without the basics from the DVDs I think I would have been quite lost…

Here's the chapter list for the Hoopnotica DVDs:

    Level 1:

    – Before you start

    – Intro

    – Warmup

    – waist hooping

    – hip hooping

    – halo (on the hand over head)

    – passing (fromhand to hand around the body) and floating (basic bringin the hoop up and down from halo)

    – corkscrews (bringing the hoop from the waist up over head and back down)

    – Combos

    – closing, interviews, performance

    Level 2:

    – Before you start

    – Intro

    – Warmup level 2

    – more advanced  corkscrews (continuous, from passing to on-body)

    – chest hooping (arms not in the hoop)

    – Neck and shoulder (chest and arms inside the hoop) hooping

    – waist angles

    – thigh/knee hooping

    – closing

    – 20 min workout to put it all together

The Level 2 DVD clearly builds on the moves of Level 1, and some of the moves are quite challenging (chest/shoulder and knee hooping takes some practice – I could do a lot of level 3 before I could knee hoop).

I first rented the Hoopnotica DVDs from Netflix before buying, maybe that's an option for you?

Amazon has them a few $ cheaper than on the Hoopnotica site and if you decide to buy both at the same time you'll get the free shipping 🙂

    Hope this helps 🙂

    Happy hooping!!!

I have all 4 hoopnotica DVDs and I love them.  In addition to what the other ladies said, these DVDs are made to be watched while you hoop practice.  Each chapter builds upon the previous lesson and are meant to be watched in the broken down sections for ease of learning.  I'm currently working through the second DVD.  I really like the progression these DVDs allow and the way things are taught.  I tried doing youtube videos but I found that without something structured to go by, I was at a loss of what I should be doing in what order.  I like to progress and build upon my progress and I feel like Hoopnotica has developed their DVDs well in this aspect.  You also might want to check out HoopCity.ca.  I find it's a great hooping community full of so much information much like studioveena is a great community for poling.  Good luck and Happy Hooping! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thank you all for your responses!!  So from all your reviews and awesome sources for hooping tutorials and such, I think I am going to buy just level one for now, maybe if I get the basics down I will be able to learn by online vids like youtube, or maybe I'll want to keep the hoopnotica flow going by advancing thru their whole series.

Im super excited to learn hooping and find it to be just as addictive watching others hoop as I do with pole lol.

@Curlzgurl, love that you mentioned the idea of hooping in pole clothes, I already am trying to piece together in my head all the possible cute lil outfits I can hoop in haha…Don't you love the fact when we work out we get to dress up and wear things like stripped knee socks with heels?  LOL Oh the possibilities.  I can definitely see that hooping will prob become just as much as an obsession as pole is for me, then again its literally a "healthy" obsession  right??  lmao

@Tine, you did an amazing overview of the DVD's thank you for taking the time to break it down for me.  It's nice to see the comparison between the two levels and what they have to offer. I checked out Netflix because I have their service, but unfortunatly those vids are no longer available grrr, would have been great to try them out like that first!!  Boo netflix lol But with the way you and Kobajo explained how the hoopnotica dvd's work I am def eager to try for myself so I am def going to get level 1 and see how it goes for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif   Thanks again ladies!

@Blunted I saw a few of SaFire's vids and was def amazed…she totally reminds me of Veena except instead of pole, she's hooping lol

and @ Marley, thanks for all your suggestions, I looked up babzrob… and dang, girl has talent and looks like she breaks things down pretty well, although I think I would have to have my basics down before using her tutorials, she has some fab tricks tho!!  Cant wait til I can do that…yay!!

Well ladies, I am happy to see that hoopnotica has a thumbs up from you all, Imma give it a go!!!  You guys are the best https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
