  • How To Shorten a Song?

Posted by Jenn PoleLush on April 14, 2011 at 7:20 am

I'm sure this is somewhere in the forum…HAS to be but I can't find it..(slow this am) what would be the best way to shorten a song? I have a demo thing and the song can only be 4 min and the one I want is 5 and change…there's a lot of music and crap that I can cut out of the beginning and actually the end. I was thinking just a fade out..any suggestions?

What sort of 'music' are you using?  Mp3 or??

I have a video editing software (Corel Video Studio 12?) and it has (as I'm sure most do) a separate 'trak' where you can drag in whatever song or sounds you want.  (As long as you can get them loaded into the program.)

I know there are lots of free online…. just hunt around and maybe you can find something for your specific situation.

Maybe someone on here can help if you tell us a little more?

Talk to Charley!  She used to work in Radio.  She probably would be more than happy to either do it for you or reccomend a program for it.

I would try Audacity, it's free to download the basic version and you can do fade ins/outs with the free version and also cut parts of songs, good luck 🙂

I just cut my song down for a competition using Audacity. A little tricky but the program works well enough for the job!

Jenn, if none of those work for you, let me know.. I work in a music studio and the boys are always great about making short versions of songs for me 🙂

If you happen to be playing it from iTunes you can edit the starting and or ending points of the track when it plays.  Select the song in the playlist, File menu -> Get info, Options.  If the edit points work then you might be all set.
