What I was after was if it is better not to save/produce the edited video for 1080 HD screen in WMM (the alternative I marked in the picture earlier in the thread) if the raw file was not a true HD one. For exampe if it was recorded as AVG.

Thanks for the already given info anyway. Sure it will be helpful.

Would use the “Recommended for this project” (which is usually the computer setting) or “BURN a DVD” if you will be burning a DVD or you could use the Custom Settings (scroll down on the SAVE MOVIE menu) and use the settings from the original video.

The biggest issue with saving as HD if it is not HD is missing pixels. Example: If you take a still picture that is say 600×480 and enlarge it to 1024×768 you will notice it gets grainy because you are adding pixels that do not exist in the original. The same is in effect for video if you try to enlarge it. In WMM, if you ever try to set a video for widescreen aspect, you notice it usually just adds black bars on the side because there is No info/pixels. Some video apps will stretch the video and remove a little top & bottom for widescreen making it a little distorted.
There are a few apps that can convert to HD but to me the ones I tried I thought looked worse.

When I watch videos on this website on my TV instead of my computer, I set it at 480p. Anything larger and it starts looking worse although its displaying full-screen with all settings. So even if you save your video to a smaller video format like “For COmputer”, it can display as well as it can based on the original video.
Hope I am not getting too technical. If so, just read the first paragraph and ignore the rest!!!

Other people have explained this stuff to me so I do not mind explaining to others if it helps. It was much easier & simpler when everything was on film. [Yes! I posted on the ‘Are you over 40’ discussion!]

You did not give details of what you are using. If you have Windows 7 or 8, you might want to upgrade to WMM 2012 which gives more options for saving including Youtube which uses MP4. You can see what you can upgrade to at:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/sv-se/windows/get-movie-maker-download
for us in the US its:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-movie-maker-download

If you list your camera might be able to help further. Knowing what the raw video format from the camera helps.

I also use windows movie maker, works great for my needs. I also bought AVS4you video editor. When that is purchased, you can also download video converter to change formats if needed. Also audio editor which I like because sometimes I like to make a song longer or edit a section of the song. There is trial version of avs4you that will have the software name logo on it.

my last two vids were with avsr. Avs doesn’t have feature to add title page thst I can find, so used movie maker to add one on the last video posted.

    hookedonpole:
I have AVS4you on one of my PC’s. Might be a slightly older version. It does Titles. When editing a video, look for the Text button to click on and then it should have a bunch of text buttons with the styles. I think you drag the button style you want into the timeline where you want it. Then just edit the text. Try that. If it doesn’t work let me know and sometime I can power on that PC.

WebJunk, THANK YOU!!!! I tried and tried before and never thought of dragging it to the timeline. I thought it should be added on another line like transitions and effects are. I did a little test and seemed to work. I always used the Text feature to add credits/message at the end. Now I love AVS4you even more 🙂
