  • How do you spin holds and maintain spins on static pole?

I was wondering how some of you more experienced polers manage to keep the momentum going on static pole? For example some manage to get 3 different leg variations in one spin. I can manage a couple ie forward to backward chair…fireman to back hook, is it all about how far out you swing your outside leg in the first place? I don’t have much room to swing out fully at home. Also, pole sits and poses…how on earth can you spin once you are up the pole? I am trying to practice a spinning climb…does it come with a bit more experience?

Practice 🙂 and playing with the balance between loosening your grip while still holding on enough to support your weight. a spin like reverse grab requires you to swing out pretty far from the pole, but other than that I can think of anything that requires that level of kick out. And as far as spinning in a pole sit, you just don’t for the most part. You can fake some spin doing planks and super abs and such by twisting the hips a bit when going into the poses. Spinning climb on static is almost like a fireman at the beginning, but after that first spin you just won’t be spinning as much.

But yeah more so than space of kicking out I think it’s learning what degree of grip is appropriate for the spin. Like learning a Juliet spin on static pole was kinda scary for me because of how loose the grip has to be it was a bit scary/didn’t really trust it at first. It’s just a totally different animal than spin pole and you typically won’t spin in aerial poses

There are tricks around that last bit as far as how you climb and enter poses like the tipping of the hips in plank/superman but I wouldn’t worry about that just yet

Spinning the static pole is one of my favorite things! There are tricks to it, depending on what move you are trying to spin. For spins from the floor, holding it long enough to do several different poses is a combination of getting proper momentum, like reaching the leg out, as well as having the strength to hold yourself up and away from the pole to get several rotations. The spinning climb actually comes from your hands, and as you reach up, rotate the hands so as you pull into them, you rotate. If you do it smoothly, it just looks like you are still spinning. For spinning moves on the pole, sometimes it comes from twisting your hips/shoulders, sometimes it comes from your hands. For anything to spin on the static pole, you need to be really confident in that move so you can loosen your grip and not slide off. I am not sure what level you are at, but these moves do take time and a lot of practice. Let me know if you want video of how to do any of them.

Hi…thanks ladies. I’m still a beginner really and building strength so I guess it will all come with practice. Just want to make my spins look polished and pretty before I advance so I have the basics right. I’ve not managed to spin from the floor yet.
Did my get my wrist seat today though :).
