  • How long should a trick or pose be held?

While practicing I'll try to hold most moves as long as I can and then switch to a different one but for performances, what is a ballpark figure of how long one posistion should be held?

I'm no expert on this, but I'd say in general, 10-20 seconds depending on the song. I tend to dance to slower songs so I don't want to rush from move to move. But you want to at least have time to show off each move. Also, I think naturally we have moves we can hold forever and then moves that are difficult to hold, so you have to adjust accordingly.

So, so many factors to consider. Most importantly I try to accent the music, so that often dictates or gives me a framework for how long to hold a move. I'd say most of mine are held about 5 seconds.

In one minute for i.e. 5 second hold would be 12 tricks per minute.

In a 4 minute song you have 36 tricks and of course not taking into account floor work and or transition moves …

These are great answers thanks so much ladies 🙂

I still havent got a grasp on moving to the music, I really want to get to that point though. I also havent really done routines with floorwork, spins and transition moves. any tips on how to do all that?

I've messed around in front of the mirror to certain tunes but I always feel like the type of moving that comes naturally to me is more sexual than what I want public to see. Especially family.
