I mean, what I did was probably (most definitely wrong)… but I read all over and kind of came to the conclusion that I hadn’t really *injured* myself. More just muscle strain that come along with working out. It’s not a muscle I ever really used before pole dancing.
I looked at it like I had done way too many squats and my butt was burning (hehe). I laid off anything that hurt and when I got back into it I just made sure to do less and build up slowly. Like instead of doing 100 squats right off the bat… start with 10. That way the next day you can sit down to pee and actually get back up again. Hehehe.
The conditioning helps though. Seriously. Tennis balls all the way! (but maybe not until it feels better)

Well I kinda feel the same too, exactly what you’re describing.
For how long did you feel it? Do you have any permanent issues at all from it?
-
I don’t really remember how long it lasted. Mine was never bad.. just mildly bothersome. Maybe I felt it just a few times after particularly hard practice.
I only pole 1-2 times a week… so I usually have a lot of recovery time. I’m sure that helped.
But I haven’t noticed it other than in the beginning… But I haven’t been working on those moves in a while (just because I’ve been working on other things) But in the mean time other parts of me have gotten so much stronger so I’m not relying on the bottom hand as much! Plus my forearms are stronger too.Hope that helps.

Oh yeah mine is not that bad either, just “bothersome”.
Well if it worked out for you then hopefully it will work out for me as well! 🙂

I recently experienced forearm pain too, from my classes & practice using lots of split grips. Rest well, and I find coffee after my practice session helped ease the pain almost immediately. Its likely your forearms working out too hard so up your protein intake too!

It sounds like golf elbow. I have had this for over 9 months now from over doing moves that I prob wasn’t ready for. (at the time I didn’t know I wasn’t ready) Is the pain from the inside of the elbow down the forearm?
-
Isn’t golf elbow a type of tendonitis or is there something I mixed up now?
Right now I can’t really feel the pain so i can’t describe it so good but I will google golf elbow and see what it sounds like.
Do you pole anyway? Did you need a break, any type of medication?

I’ve tried everything – stopping for a while, physio, massage, accupuncture, foam roller etc etc – I still pole but I’m more careful what moves & grip I use. I also went back to basics and tried to build up my strength a bit more

I tend to get pain after a few attempts from split grip and only do it sparingly. It’s usually your body just signaling enough. The stronger I’ve gotten, the more often my body has been able to use split grip/wrist & grip intensive moves. I usually use a bracket grip after a couple tries to prevent over exertion and to build it slowly. I use a grip tool too to help build the strength (I don’t know what they’re actually called; they’re in the weight section of stores).

You can avoid so much pain by making sure you don’t fully grip with the bottom hand. If you’re gripping properly it will feel more like your PUSHING with the bottom PALM than gripping with the fingers. You’ll see close ups of this in the lessons here.

Hello!
I want to update you all that the pain is much better!
I had decided to rest until today, as I said, but actually I trained a little (very carefully) yesterday and I experienced no problems! After training I took a bath and did some massage on my arm and I think that it might just be a trigger point (is that what it’s called in english?) that is giving me a hard time. I have not been swollen at all but after the massage the triggerpoints on the top and underneath my underarm has been a little swollen (in a kind of non painful way, but like they can become if you massage them if you understand what I mean). I used to have a lot of problems with the two trigger points on my shoulders and every time I massage them they became just like this and then after one day they were much better again.
So it might be just that.
At least I hope so! D:
However it’s not hurting at all today so I feel hopeful!
And thank you Veena I will definetly look up the lessons as soon as I’ve signed up for them (which I will do as soon as I can afford it!)

My 2 cents. I havent posted in a while but saw this thread. When I first started poling about a year and half ago I experienced some serious forearm pain. Even to the point where I couldn’t lift my arms for over a week. I was very discouraged about poling and did lots of research. I began doing the forearm and wrist exercises here..especially the one with the tennis ball. I kept the tennis ball in my car and worked it everyday. In time the pain went away. I would definitely say that tennis ball was my saving grace and really helped strengthen my grip. I don’t pole as often as I would like to now, however because I really took the time to strengthen my grip forearm pain is almost non existent and as soon as I feel the slightest bit of discomfort I get going with my tennis ball!
