  • How to get out of yogini gracefully?

So I finally have a decent looking yogini, but I’m lost on how to get out of it gracefully. I’ve seen seen some people drop into the "fetus on a stick" (sorry, I don’t know the name of this and I called it fetus on a stick in my mind so it’s stuck) position but how else can I get out of it?

Hmm. Keep the armpit hold and straighten the legs into rocketman- then put your legs back o the pole in a stand?

SInce we’re talking about yogini.. how does one get in to it. I sort of tried it the other day and not happening! I suppose it is a difficult move any with the armpit gripping?

easiest way is from a sit.

if you climb with your right foot hooked: from a climb, without moving your feet, bend at the waist and knees to go into a crouch. lean slightly forward so that your shoulders are in front of the pole. set your right armpit into the pole. put your left hand on the pole a few inches below your right armpit. use your hand to pull the pole in to your body. at one point, before your body is fully in the hold, the tension of the hand pulling the pole in towards you will be your main point of support– so this has to be a good strong hold. with your right hand, grab your right foot. crank the foot behind you, arching your back and pushing your hips forward, so that the front of your hip and side of your stomach, as well as armpit, are contacting the pole. the harder you crank, kicking into your hand with your foot, the more stable the hold will be. make sure it is completely stable before you release your left hand to grab your left foot.

this is a trick that is a lot easier to show and troubleshoot in person! usually people don’t arch their back enough.

another way out of the yogini- straight legs rocketman, put your left hand (outside hand) on the pole below you and go into cradle and then whatever you like! that’s a fun one.

Thanks for that description amyxshi, I know its easier to do in person, but I feel like I understand the move more now https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I personally love the drop coming out of this move…it’s basically going into the sit but then crouching and dropping down into the bomb. If you want to try it don’t think of dropping so far…just drop a couple of inches, then more as you get comfortable with it.

Either to the drop or the sit think of moving your legs in gracefully and all slow-motion-ish. Amy does a beautiful job of coming out of this!

Can I post a link to your performance at the midwest pole jam? I believe it was on here before but you do a small drop and very graceful exit from the yogini in that one.
