I can only work on tricks for about 20-30 minutes tops on the pole because the skin HURTS like a mofo and I can’t do anything about it. Even if I mix it up and practise different tricks that require different skin contact, I then come back to the earlier trick and it still hurts just as bad as before. Is this just a thing I have to get past, just suck it up until my skin gets used to the pain doing e.g. figurehead or ckr, etc.?

I’m interested to see replies to this topic….I recently saw a class listed for “skin conditioning” (like pole conditioning focusing on breaking in the skin maybe??) now I can’t remember which studio but I would def like to know how to do this lol….I guess good (but really not so good) news is that studios around my area seem to start class late, take up a lot of time talking or installing equipment we need and then of course warm up for 15-20 min so we only get about 20 min on the pole anyway 🙁

Are you properly warmed up when you practise? Being cold hurts much more. Engage muscles where you are gripping as that is less painful than just hanging in the skin.

Keeping practising the tricks will make it hurt less finally.

I don’t know any techniques I personally had to suck it up until my skin got used to it. My method was to try and repeat a new move as much as I could even if I was getting tired because I knew that after I stopped my skin would be too sore or bruised for a few days to continue practising the same move. As soon as I recovered I’d be back at it again and eventually there would be no pain after repeating the process enough times.

You’re not sensitive to any of the pole cleaning products or the metal of the pole are you? Just asking cos a girl in one class I go to gets sore skin from the alcohol.

The bruising and nipping/tenderness and sore muscles is normal when learning new tricks though 🙁

I think I warm up pretty well before moving on to tricks, but I guess I could give extra effort next time. Thank you for the tips, Lina 🙂 I don’t think I am allergic to the metal or alcohol, it’s not a pain or burning sensation afterwards, it’s the the skin-ripping pain during 🙁 I guess I’ll just have to suck it up and work on it. Thanks for the replies, ladies!
