Hey guys. So, I’m working on practicing stuff for the BeSpun Flow Challenge. I wasn’t able to get my video up for week 1 but I’m going to try REALLY hard to get 2 done. Anyway, my problem is that I am having a hard time executing the pirouettes that have to be incorporated into the routine as well as some other moves, because my floor is NOT a smooth surface. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as far as what they do to enable a nice smooth dance area. I basically have crash mat flooring with hardwood underneath. The hardwood hurt like hell when I’d land too hard, but now the crash mat lock together flooring I have is too rough and NOT solid enough to dance on or slide on. Really bummed and frustrated and would love any suggestions! I’ve thought about buying a computer chair floor mat to place around the pole but I don’t know if that is such a good idea.

Anyway, thank you all in advance for any help or for simply taking the time to read this post. I just feel like I’m really limited and my own floor is holding me back, much less the fact that I have no pole dance studios around here and am pretty much attempting to teach myself via tutorials online.

I don’t have a solution, but wanted to post to say you’re not alone! I couldn’t do the challenge last week because I’m on carpet and can’t do the pirouettes properly. I get halfway round and have to give the pole a shove to keep going! On the plus side, if I ever get to try them on a hard floor, I bet they’ll seem really easy by comparison…

I actually ran into that too, I couldn’t do a simple turn because of carpet burn, I ended up going and buying an office chair mat and it works great!!! I wear little tiny socks that only cover my toes and heel that way I can slide and climb the pole, hope this helps 🙂

Couple options for you; a little dance flat like a ballet slipper helps me spin smoothly when my feet are sticking, or put some packing tape on the bottom of your foot or shoes.

I use Bloch Elastosplits (not quite slippy enough on the carpet, sadly) so I’ll add some packing tape over the toe/ball of the foot to see if that helps. A mat will be next! Thanks both 🙂
