Ok so. . I have been poling since December. .and lets just say. .IM ADDICTED!! 🙂 I have been self teaching myself without stepping a foot inside of a studio. I am at a stage where I am feeling stuck. I am trying to do this on my own but I need some help. . The Veena community is great, and I am very thankful for the knowledge that I obtained from this site. The help and encouragement from one another is amazing! I am at a standstill right now where I know enough to have gotten where I am today but not nearly what I need to know to progress. . I would really like the encouragement and bond with people that have the same passion as me. Im just a rookie still lol Im a “get a glass of wine, put on some good music, and pole dance my heart out” type of girl. My husband enjoys playing call of duty with his friends, and I pole by myself when the kids are in bed. I would really love some pole friends that I can interact with. I have no friends from this site. .I am still a newbie. .but I am ready to start building a portfolio, and be more invovled. .

    LOL! That post is weird.

Well, Kristina, I know exactly what you’re talking about because I’ve been feeling that way too. I was just talking to my hubby about how I wonder if I have to go to a studio to progress like what I see here and on yt of other polers. I was feeling so behind and somewhat lost as to what to work on. But then he, and my research on the internet, told me I am progressing fine, I am learning everyday, and I shouldn’t feel like I need to BE anywhere because poling is a journey. And I really get that. It’s the fun of learning and practicing that is the real reward. If I only cared about the end result, well, that would be sad because that would mean, the end. I dont want to ever get to that point. Annnnnd, I went off track. But I totally get what you’re saying. I would LOVE to have pole friends that could come by and we could pole, talk pole, and watch pole vids, etc. My husband is so bored of it by now. I know that if I go to a studio, that is more of a possibility, but I just can’t afford that at this moment in time. Maybe one day. But for now, I’m a SV’er through and through.

I know the feeling of being at a point, where you seem to be kind of stuck even though I’m at a studio. Try to give yourself a challenge like how many moves can you combine up in the pole using only a move ONE time, including the invert or like “how long can you hold *insert move of your own choice*”. For inspiration I like to go here, search on youtube and look at photos on instagram under #poledance #polefitnes, #poledancing and so on, where you also can get a lot of fun pole dance acquaintance from all over the world. 🙂

I know exactly how you guys feel… Not just with pole friends… In general really.

I basically lost touch with most people while I was in dental school in NYC… 4 years of extreme studying and pressure. Most people moved away and got married etc. So now I’m back in NJ with very little to do with my spare time. I have a wonderful husband and a kid but I still need girlfriends, ya know? My dental school friends rocked.. but they all dispersed after school too. We still keep in touch and meet up, it’s just difficult. Sometimes you just need someone you can call to come over for a bit and grab a mani pedi with!

Most people here are much older. It’s an expensive area with very little to do in terms of a social scene, so that’s understandable. But it’s where my husband grew up, 20 min from where I grew up, and where we want to raise our son.

Actually that feeling lead me to pole! It was a cross between “I need a hobby” and “I need to get out and make friends”

That’s why I decided to try pole a few months ago. Closest 45+ min away. It’s actually a home studio with 2 poles. Well, I fell in love with pole. But so far I have had zero luck with pole friends. Usually it’s just me in class (which I do love). It’s crazy how NJ is so populated but the pole community seems existent!

I actually joined MeetUp.com and joined some girls social clubs… and went to a few happy hours. The events are usually centered on eating fried food and drinking beer AND ALL I WANT TO DO IS POLE. I’ve also been comparing everyone to my NYC friends which just isn’t fair… I need to let that go a little.

Soooo I actually am hosting my own MeetUp at the place I pole this Friday!!!!. But because there are only 2 poles there it can only be me +3. So far it’s just been a huge headache because girls sign up then don’t pay and become unresponsive…. And there is a wait list, so if you’re just going to hold a spot and cancel last min it’s not fair! Plus the instructor worked out her rate for 4 people… Not 2 or 3. I learned lessons on how to organize it better next time so they pay first. But I was just testing the waters to see in there was interest…. And there is.

It’s just going to be a beginner/intro workshop so I might be a little bored but these girls are from my area so maybe one will fall in love. Buy a pole… And we can practice together!

    I’m sneaky, huh?

Haha! Great idea, Allyson! I wish I was in NJ so we could get mani/pedis and talk pole! I bet one of those girls will fall in love, just like we did. Fingers crossed for you! 😉

Thanks CJ… Though at this point maybe I should move to Orlando! The weather is certainly better. And honestly, the best mani pedi I ever had was at the Ritz in Orlando! 🙂

I am really happy I have SV. This place and the lessons are priceless. I do want a “Pole Buddy” nearby but I’m also happy to have pole buddies a all over the world.

Wow, that was really a strange post! Anyway, Yup, right there with you girls! So hard to stay in the pole groove when its just you. I was in a studio for 3 years but even then didn’t seem anyone was as as into it as me even though they showed each week. well one girl I did bond with but she moved. So I pole at home and also wish I had some friends to pole play with. It’s awesome to be able to connect here but never pole together. What to do, what to do!

ah ha! I’m from NY and when I come home for the Holidays we should meet up in the city for pole class. I asked GaetaAggressiva to take a class with me when I come home, we should all go together even though its far off it sounds like a good plan!

I’d be up for that for sure, but I think you guys are probably miles (and levels) ahead of me. But I’m up for anything!

I’d love to get together on Skype and have pole jams, as well! I’m pretty much fully-self/home taught, and I’m not terribly advanced, so no worries about me saying something like “Yeah, I’ve been working on this combo with the true grip handspring and the dragon tail…” Nowhere near that yet! Haha
Let me know what your timezone is, and we can find some pole time!

Orlando is beautiful and tons of fun! I’d happily host a pole jam any time anyone visits. 🙂 my timezone is eastern – gmt-4:00.

You ladies are awesome!! I love seeing the progress but I want to get the most out poling that I possibly can, and I know that there is no way to do it by myself. I have a friend that used to dance which I thought she would know a little something. .definately not lol I asked her if she knew what an inside leg hang was and she was clueless..haha I have no resources here to join the journey with me. A skype buddy is exactly what I am looking for!! 🙂 I would love to have a room where I could have friends over to pole. That would be a great way to get someone to do it!! Alot of people around here associate the pole with stripping and they arent open minded to it. I live in Indiana. . .

I’m happy to skype sometime and inspire each other… Sounds fun!

I also have Veena’s lessons… I honestly can’t speak highly enough of them in terms of my progression. It’s really easy to go between lessons and move on to other related moves. 🙂
She is like my skype buddy and she doesn’t even know it (though she does wave to me in every video, hehe)
