Hi everyone! I’m new to studioveena.com and still very much a beginner with pole as I only started about 6 months ago. I bought a pole because I wanted to practice and do some conditioning at home in between classes. I’m on a bit of a budget so I was looking for a used pole online or on craigslist. Well, craigslist was a bust as I got stood up by a seller who just decided not to return my calls/texts or even meet me at the time/location we agreed to meet at. I bought an Xpole Xpert on ebay for $220 and it was advertised as “some scratches but great condition” and I receive it and it looks like crap! It’s all scuffed to the point where it does not have a whole lot of grip at all! Unfortunately I couldn’t leave bad feedback because the seller waited like 2 weeks to ship it to me and I had to file a dispute when she stopped responding to me, and ebay let it go when she provided the tracking number on the day my package finally arrived…

So now I’m stuck with this pole that has all these scuffs and scratches and no amount of chrome polish or jeweler’s rouge can get it smooth again. I’m so frustrated with this that I’m likely going to buy a brand new pole and take the hit on this one. I can’t imagine someone actually buying this after seeing its true condition.

Before I just get rid of this pole, does anyone have any good ideas to get my scuffed up pole nice and grippy? We use chrome x-poles at the studio I go to and I wanted the same one in my apartment, but there is a HUGE difference in grip when I’m at the studio and at home. If anyone can help me recover my current crappy pole I would love some advice! Thanks!! Happy poling everyone!

I’m so sorry that you had such a bad experience buying your pole!
I’m sure there must be a way to salvage the issue!
First thing that came to mind for me was powder-coating it! I love my powder coated pole, it’s REALLY grippy and I love it!
I realize, not the same as your chrome poles in the studio, but that MAY be a good thing! It means that if you have some issues sticking to chrome, you can practice the move at home, or vice versa.
It would also give you a bit more experience, as you’ll hone your skills and find out what it is you prefer! If you ever travel abroad, too, you’ll be better versed in different types of poles.

If it not toooooo old s version (ie. Does it have x joints) you can call Xpole buy a new piece or two. There main parts of the pole are sections A and B. Those can be replaced without replacing everything. You might even be fine keeping scratched up extensions depending on your ceiling height and how often you use that height on the pole.

I’m not sure the cost but it’s definitely less than a new pole and maybe equivalent to powdercoating.

I also wanted to add that for some reason many of us experience better grips at the studio, even when we have the exact poles! Sometimes (though yours may be beat up) a heavily used pole at the studio may be more broken in. I used to have to warm up my pole so much at home… And at the studio it was much faster… Plus during warm ups we moved around the pole with strength moves getting it warm. That’s something I tended to skip at home. So I’d be slipping and sliding all over my chrome pole wondering why. Leaving a space heater on it before I poled helped.

Then I got my TG and it remains to be seen how much I’ll need to do that this winter.

I know there havre been threads on this here before. Sometimes poles just take some getting used to at home. Or maybe it really is the finish on the pole.

Best of luck luck in whatever you choose.

Thanks for all of these replies!! Ill investigate the possibility of getting replacement parts instead of the whole pole. Powder coating sounds interesting too so I may look into that! I thought my post would just get ignored but I’m happy to see so many replies! The pole community is so awesome, I am so thrilled to become a part of it! 🙂
