Posted by joscelynsmom on October 11, 2012 at 5:57 pmI haven't seen it on here and didn't find it in a search so I thought I would share the newest move to get on my pole to do list with all you. I saw it titled Icarus Spin on youtube.

Okay, Charley was just asking about a version of this a few weeks ago.
-
The one I posted is different. The arm is not behind the pole. The whole torso sits to the front resting on the back of the shoulder by the neck and is hooked with the back of one knee, other leg extended. Also it is not held with any hands. Probably similar to get into but definitely different results.

My theory is that some kind of shoulder mount lock is involved? And therefore a significant amount of back flexibility, to get your knee solidly hooked behind the pole like that? (I'm referring to the one in the original post, not Charley's variation.) JUST SPITBALLING THOUGH.

@ chemgoddess1
not sure they can be called variations. in Icarus arms are not involved at all. technique will be quite different.
I chated to Anna Markina (Lepshina) who perfomed this trick here. It implies strong knee pit grip and neck hold. It seems basically she's holding with her neck…
when we were figuring out this trick, another variation (different from Icarus) was performed

Did you guys see the video response in the 1st link posted here?

She looks to be positioned on the pole the same as Anna except her arms are more downwards
than straight out

@ Cherished
a good note, thanks. it seems it can be a good transition or preparitory move if you hold the pole with your bottom hand below and the upper hand holds the pole above the head while positioning in Icarus. when secure, straghten arms to the sides…

Hi All, I tried this move today thanks a video response from CaitlinMidori to my Post of Icuras Pole Trick. It takes quite a lot of leg strength as some of you have already mentioned. I also started with the same arm as my leg grip, holding the pole in at my waist. Once I was able to feel the correct position I was able to release. Hope this helps. SonicXplosion xx

I'm so close. I was able to get it on a static pole. Will try it on a spinning pole tomorrow.
Hope these tips help.
1 – Grip really hard with your leg
2 – Use both hands over your head to pull you up and through to the other side
3 – Place your neck (no hair because you slip) on the pole and put the same arm as your bent leg in at your waist to hold the pole
4 – Keep your top hand on the pole until you feel you have grip/balance with your leg, neck and hand. Jiggle/move into position.
5 – Once you have balance & jiggled then release top hand.
6 – Ultimately being able to release bottom hand too.Put shaving cream behind your knee. I first tried it on a 38mm pole then once I was able to sit on the front of the pole, I moved to a 42mm pole and was able to 'Icarus'…lol no spin tho.
