Implant
Posted by Trena on September 28, 2009 at 8:48 pmThe contraceptive implant that is…
Today, after a lot of debate, I had an implant put in…Does anyone else have one? And does it have an effect on your poling?? (Im right-handed and she put it in the inside of my upper left arm.) I asked the doctor will it affect my poling and she said she doesnt know enough about it (the poling, not the implant, lol) to be able to tell me.
Any thoughts??

Aloha!
I have this impant. I’ve had it for about 5 years now. (Got it changed after 3 years, as you do). It has never ever affected my poling in any way.
Even when I did corkscrew (which burnt and bruised the inside of my left arm, where the implant is). However, a friend of mine said that she caught hers once or twice on the pole – in a pinchy way – and it really hurt. I don’t know why, because I cannot feel my in my arm (I can feel it with my other hand if I go looking). But I guess it depends how deep it is in, and how long you’ve had it (so the skin and tissue grows around it more?) perhaps.

Hi Trena,
I have an implant for 5 years now, exchanged once after 3 years.
In general, the first time I got it, it took about 3-4 weeks to heal completely till I didn’t feel it at all. In that period it was a bit uncomfortable to get pressure on it, like lying on it. After that, it was OK in everyday life (wasn’t poling or doing yoga yet at that point).
When it got exchanged, it healed much faster, I think because the hole was already there, it just got put a little higher up. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gifIn yoga, I was careful first with anything involving that arm wrapped around my leg/knee. I needed a little getting used to, but I figured out how to place the arm and not get the knee right on it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif Even acroyoga worked fine, only once I had to ask to go down, I was hanging on my partner’s feet, which were placed under my arms close to the arm pit, and my legs floating in air parallel to the floor. In other words, my whole weight was hanging on the small area between his feet and my arms. It worked the first time, the second time I got my implant caught and it pinched somewhat uncomfortable, so I asked to get down, but could still dismount in a controlled manner https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif . My partner was feeling totally bad… I should have told him beforehand, but I so forget because I usually don’t feel it… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif
But seriously, pole burn is much worse in my opinion… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif I think the worst thing that can happen is to get a bruise https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
On the pole, I first was scared to do the reverse spins in buddy grip with my left on the bottom, but that was all mental… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif Now I’m happily spinning both ways and it doesn’t bother me. Any inversion prep I’ve tried is fine so far, too. I can’t get upside down yet, so I can’t comment on more advanced tricks.
My plan is to learn the other side first, to figure out the general how-to before I need to think about my implant at the same time https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gifFrom everything (yoga, pole, everyday life) together, I’d say it also gets desensitized in time, because the more I use the inside of that arm (sleeping on it, wrapping in yoga, hanging on the pole…) the less I feel it in those situations.
Please take my word with caution and listen to your body, as this is my personal experience, but I am not qualified to give advice in medical and pole questions https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
Hope this is a little helpful nevertheless https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
