Inverstion leg vice incorrect?
Posted by Poleluver on November 20, 2009 at 5:41 amI am inverting more and am afraid to let go to slide and go down hands first. I am sliding down with hands and even that feels a little scary as I am trying to control the speed a little too much with them and not my legs. Anyone have specific or general pointers/ideas to help? Maybe I gotta do a vid, but for now what do I need to know about the legs???

alright, alright, having a small pole Jam in December and maybe that is when it would be most comfortable to do a vid to ask if I haven’t figured it out by then.

Yes it’s very difficult to advise without a vid short of writing a book on how to position the legs.
Since you’re talking about holding on, I’m not going to address actually getting into the invert.
I presume you’re doing the inverted crucifix? One thing is to make certain that you can hold the crucifix in an upright position. This gets your legs familiar with what parts to align with the pole. It varies slightly when you’re inverted but it’s very close and get’s you comfortable.
One common mistake seen with people new to inverting is leg position. Make certain that your legs are on opposite sides of the pole – one front and one in back. So many make the mistake of putting both legs on the same side of the pole trying to lock them together.
If you have PVC boots or shoes you may also try using them for a a more stable hold until you figure out your leg positions but I advise againts knee high boots and recommend only ankle high boots. When you’re new you may have a hard time getting out of position and down from the pole if you have knee high boots as you feel like you’re stuck and can’t slide down. This can be dangerous.
As always…make certain you have a spotter and crash mat.

Basic invert
outside leg comes to the SAME side of the pole your body is on
inside leg come to the OTHER side away from your body.
Your POINT OF CONTACT…with the pole will be… the heel, back of the calf, of the outside leg… in between the knees and thighs of both legs, and top of foot with the pole crossing over the shin of your inside leg.
Concentrate on holding that pole in between and just barley above the insides of your knees. Working on your upright Crucifix can be helpful because it is that same leg position. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

upright crucific? is that gripping the pole with your legs in a ‘standing’ position (like how you end up in a standing fireman) and then arms out to the side?

yeah, the crucifix….the leg position is the same for the inverted crucifix too.
