    I’ve had a lot of students have problems extending into the butterfly, and it is because of the weight shift. When you *just* straighten the leg, it shifts the weight distribution between the hands, but if you slide the leg up a bit before or while extending, then the distribution doesn’t change. As for the leg/hip positions, I’m not crazy about people saying one is “right” and the other wrong. I think it is more what looks good on the individual dancer.
