Not sure if this is already a thread if it is in sorry. I was wondering if youcan’t aerial invert should you be inferring at all? The reason I ask is bc I learned to invert the wrong way by kicking before this site. I’ve tried going back to basics trying to retrain myself. Standing on my tippy toes. Anything I can think of but I can’t seem to break my bad habbit. Once I get upside down I have to pull to get my legs right. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have been struggling with this fit a very long time. Please help! Thanks.

It might be that you are not ready for an invert at all. I have my students start in a side hold (https://www.studioveena.com/galleries/view/0a377ad0-85e2-11e1-adf5-12313d086a56)  and tuck their knees to the outside of their elbows. When they are comfortable with that, in the same position I have them engage the arms and back to tilt back in a very controlled manner only a little bit at first… increasing slowly until you are able to rock back all the way. It forces you to use good form (you can't kick if you're already tucked in the air) and provides conditioning when you're not quite ready for it. To do this move properly, it generally takes a bit of time and conditioning so don't be discouraged. The conditioning will be good in the long run because a lot of people will get back pain even if they invert properly because their back muscles aren't strong enough to support and maintain the inverted posture.

This was just posted yesterday. https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/51c88033-4ff8-4200-bc23-43390ac37250#51c8d427-9c90-4b5e-86d1-5f640ac37250 There have been many threads discussing the appropriate time to invert. https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/793 This is a good one.

Kori and I are of the same school of thought when it comes to inverting.  Great minds, eh?

And aerial inverting is a whole other creature.  Just because you cannot aerial invert does not mean you should not be inverting (however in your case I would go back to basics).  ALSO, try working on your reverses.  Get into an invert from a reverse handstand and slowly lower yourself to the ground as you would for inverting.  This is WAY harder than you would think but will build the proper muscles needed.  Try to resist gravity from making you flop to the ground.

I’ve read the ones about to proper time to invert already. N I’ve been doing the side hold n lifting my knees up but I can’t seem to figure out how to tilt back. I guess I should have said that.

Make sure your hips are in front of the pole.. And think “crotch” to pole.. Don’t grab too high with your arms either.. You will lose all your power. Practice from the floor first to get the mechanics of it. Your legs have to move past the pole to avoid the “scooching” up

When you start you have to have a bend in your arms.  If they are not bent then there is no way from them to extend.  As always, a video helps.
