I don’t have any particular trouble going into a basic invert, but I notice that I’m not at all graceful when I do it. When I get my front leg (that’s my right leg, inverting on my right side) onto the pole, I kind of have to jerk it upwards to straighten myself out, and it looks really clumsy. Is it a strength issue? I don’t have any trouble with my chopper, which I can do quite slowly, but the invert always looks like crap.

I guess my questions are: Should I actually be lifting my legs higher up, or maybe letting my arms and the rest of my body slide down? And is this a matter of practice and understanding the move better, or developing strength?

    Thanks for your help!

So I went back and looked at your "had the time of my life" video and you are aerial inverting/chopper with control. Also i thought your chopper to leg hook did not look clumsy, but understand wanting perfection.
    Help
    1) While going into your aerial invert keep your legs straight as you go through your invert the way you do in chopper. While in aerial invert let your legs dangle straight down, open into a straight leg v, and then attempt straight leg chopper. This may make it tough to invert, but is well worth the practice time. It will allow your hip flexors and lower abdominals strength to increase as well as grace. I often practice just lifting into an open v to chopper, reverse ,and then repeat.
    2) You are on the right track from chopper to leg hook. Continue to lift those hips upward toward the pole before wrapping. really make sure you are contracting those abs while lifting.

You are doing great! There is a lot of guidance here but Veena’s lessons are the best guidance!
