  • Inverting on Spin mode

    Hello,

I saw mentioned in a post several months ago how inverting on spin is different but I can't find it using the search engine. I can standing and aerial invert without a problem but struggle with both on spin mode. I can get it as long as I don't spin too fast but it isn't pretty. I find side climbing into the side pole hold causes slower rotation which makes it easier. Changing from cross ankle climb into side pole just acclerates too fast and there is no leg/arm sticking out combo I have found to help this.  Any suggestions. Not able to post my videos due to window movie maker crashing my computer all the time but suggestions would be welcome. Or if anyone knows of any good resources, please let me know. Next project: build my own computer for video editing! Thanks in advance.

I would like to find that thread as well. I just started inverting and I found that it was actually easier for me on spinny. That sounds weird I know….

I was awfully dizzy tho…something about going round and round upside down was a bit much for me, but I inverted a lot easier.

it takes time and practice, in my experience.  Just keep at it, and you will get it.  Mine looked awkward for a while and then it looked awkward only sometimes… and now mostly on my bad side 😉  I will say, it is easier to invert on spinning pole going backward.  So if you turn away from the spin then invert, it is supposed to be easier.  I learn that little tip later in my progress, but is is also a nice little switch up.  But, if you can invert better on a certain side, remember to start spinning on the weaker side and then turn away for an invert, not facing the direction the pole is spinning.  I have also found it is easier to just tuck one leg in, the outside leg, and swing the other one around to get in front of the pole…takes more practice, and that will build the strength.  YOU can Do it 😉

Dirdy Birdy has a really good tutorial on YouTube which covers inverting / aerial inverting / spin mode inverting / spin mode aerial inverting / invert preps.

So I’ve found that when I invert on static, I pause before invert. When spinning, it is one movement. No pause. The pause makes me think I’m going too fast and I psyche myself out. Also, keeping your legs straight through the whole invert helps. I agree with the previous post on going backwards. But I also feel like it’s a lot of trial and error

Best (easiest & most attractive) way I believe is how I learned from Mina — “fan” it out. So she starts it out by diagonalizing her body so head is opp of pole than where legs are, body straight (no hips caving back) — she called this position the “foosball” (sp?), then outside leg fans inward & up (in direction of spin), turning your body into pole, inside leg follows (this one can also have a mild curve/fan to it) while outside leg completes its fan-around motion to get you into that inverted chopper pose. Think climbing up a steep mountain via switchbacks vs straight up the steep face of it (that’s the analogy that I give my students anyway)… Yes, the “straight up” (what I also call the “brute strength”) way works too, however it is like 10x harder on spin mode, could look clunky (visually the “fan” way is much more forgiving, can even be prettier), and no matter how strong you are, burns so much of your energy — why not conserve it for all the other cool & hard stuff you want to do after that once you are up there & upside down on the pole?

Good luck — DEF’LY takes practice… You will get it & love it & look gorgeous!

Thank you for all the suggestions. The dirtybird tutorial was great too. I had seen people do the one that looks like a fan but it is usually done so fast. I definitely give them all a try on wednesday or Thursday.
