  • Inverting on spin mode – tips?

(If there are already threads about this, kindly point me to them, I did not bother searching first.)

I've started trying to do a basic invert while spinning. I've been comfortable on spin mode for a while now when it comes to other tricks, and I'd love to be able to invert as well. I've tried doing it while spinning in both directions, i.e. moving forward and inverting   "against the spin," and leaning back and inverting "with the spin," if that makes sense.

The two things I've encountered so far are:

    — Going too fast

    — Feeling really off-kilter in the spin because my body weight is not centered with the pole, making the rotation feel lopsided like I'm being pulled to one direction.

The off-balance feeling bothers me most because it paralyzes me from being able to move out of the invert position into a leg hang or crucifix. It's totally disorienting and scary. I normally have very few issue with dizziness while on spin mode, but when inverting it becomes an issue.

Almost like my brain is going "I can handle round-and-round, but not upside-down-and-round-and-round!"

Does this go away with time & practice, or is it always going to feel a little like the pole is trying to buck me off like a bronco? Is there some certain technique I should be using that would help (like how you do reverse grab a lot differently on spin than on static)? FYI, at this point I'm inverting from the floor, not aerially. And I also currently don't have Veena's lessons because I'm paying for a studio membership instead.

    Thanks Veeners! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Can you do a spinning chopper while in static mode?  If you have the lessons here it is: https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4d1b710a-9968-4b88-a397-05330ac37250

Inverting *for me* in spin mode is approached very similarly to a spinning chopper.  If I try to invert into chopper in the regular way I have a really hard time getting my hips up, however if I go into it from the side of the pole as if I was doing a corkscrew spin entry it is much easier.

BTW, after 5 years I still hate spin mode.  There are a few moves that I am able to do but I still get dizzy as all anything.

See, I love spin mode, to the point that my static spins have suffered because I don't practice them enough. I feel spin mode lends me flow and momentum that I wouldn't have on static.

I don't have the lessons right now because I'm paying for a studio membership and can't budget for both.

I'm not familiar with Spinning Chopper but I think I get what you're saying about the Corkscrew positioning. Corkscrew is one of my favorites on spin mode. So you mean, lift up and get the hips well in front of the pole before bringing the legs and body up, right? Sort of like you would with an aerial invert from a Figurehead on static? It makes sense that that would work since it does center me on the pole more than trying to come up from the side. Thanks for the tip!

Yep! That would make sense that that works better. Thanks! And sorry to make you look stuff up that I could look up, I was trying to cook dinner at the same time, LOL.

Not a big deal.  I am in the middle of trying to figure out what to pack for this weekend.

chem is right-it's a diff. technique

I learned it by learning just the pencil first. Then I tilt my body to the side and invert. It takes a while to build up strength for that b/c it's different than a regular invert. You have to have the strength to hold a pencil, while in spin mode before doing it…

    I can't seem to find a vid:(

Dirdy birdy has a good tutorial on inverting in spin mode – http://youtu.be/_WVTRk6jSOI
