  • Is Floor Work supposed to hurt?

My knees, ankles, tail bone, ?top of spine bone? and hip bones are so bruised and hurt like a mother! I never thought of myself as boney, but wooden floors are extremely unforgiving to whatever jutting part is rubbing against them. I’m hoping this eases with practice. I tried using my area rug, and carpet burn was even worse than the hard wood floor.

Does the hurt of floor work operate the same way as pole burn – meaning over time, does it get less painful as you become accustomed to the moves? I’m thinking of investing in some Kindermats.

Yes, it hurts at first. And yes, like pole burn you get used to it after a while. I still really hate carpet burn, but hard wood floors are no prob now. Tough it out and it will pass.

I’ve been dancing 3 years and I still get bruises from doing too much/too enthusiastic floor work. You do get used to it though. You learn how to move your weight differently, and your knees toughen up. I used to look like someone was beating me after a weekend of work, now I just get the occasional ding. You’ll get there https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
