I am devistated.  I have just been diagnosed with diabetes.  This has totally thrown me for a loop.  I don't know what I am going to do – I am the world's most pickiest eater.  I've tried and tried to not be so picky but there is no changing me.  I don't enjoy food anyway – I eat because I have to in order to live but if I didn't have to, I wouldn't eat at all.

I don't know why this has bothered me so much – I have much worse diseases – I have lupus, MS, life-threatening asthma and allergies, and several other things.  You would think I would be used to having my doctor tell me I have a life-altering disease.

Does anyone else on here have diabetes?  If you have any suggestions for books, etc I would really appreciate it.

So sorry to hear your news. I have a cousin who was diagnosed with this last year. I will ask her about books and suggestions. Also, if you have any other questions let me know and I'll ask that too. Overall she seems to be doing well. She had to make some changes such as eating a bit healthier and she started doing more physical activities such as taking more walks and other simple forms of excercise.

I think regardless of what ailments we have or don't have – it's all about finding the right indvidual balance to make things work for ourselves. There are people with none of your conditions who just don't make the most of what their health and would never be able to make it as far as you have if they were in your shoes or even make it as far in their own shoes.

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis as well as the hard time you're having dealing with it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

It's not easy coming to terms with a diagnosis sometimes and it's not always clear on why. My son was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and even though we knew he had it and it didn't change anything with him it was still really hard to accept and deal with it becoming official. i think you're fantastic dealing with the other conditions you have and am sure you'll take this in your stride and work out how and what to eat in your own time. Have you searched for diabetes forums you could maybe join for advice?

my husband has type 1 diabetes and injects twice a day he was diagnosed seven years ago. It hit him hard to start with and he couldnt cope with injecting himself but now it is just part of his life. There is loads of info on the web to help you and my husband has a diabetic nurse who he sees regularly who helps him alot. As long as you look after yourself it shouldnt have to take over your life x

Hi- I am sorry to hear that. I sort of know how you feel. I have severe food allergies and asthma too and also was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and eosinophilic esophagitis. My dad's side of the family has type 1 diabetes and I'm scared to death of getting it. It's autoimmune and I already have immune issues like the spondylitis. My dad got it late- he was around 38 or so I think. I hope you have a support system around you that can take care of you. Keep those glucose tablets around, at all times. My dad still has issues at random times even though he tries to control it, sometimes he just can't for whatever reason. He's not an alcoholic but when he does drink he tends to overdo it and that throws everything out of whack even more. I wish you the best of luck. Pleast stay strong. I know it's cliche but you have to think that quote "out of the most suffering comes the strongest of souls". You are dealing with more than most people will ever deal with. So if that means canceling a plan with them or being a bitch at times, you have EVERY right to do that.

I am sorry to see this. This has to be an extremely difficult thing to be dealing with especially with other medical conditions you are dealing with. I do not have diabetes but I have a number close friends that do. They haven't read books that they have shared with me but they have worked with nutritionalists and then followed up with their doctors for monitoring to see how the dietary changes are working for them. I hope that you are able to get some great advice here, wishing you to feel as well and do great.
