Just something that’s been bothering me…
I work as a front desk agent for a Delta Hotel (a four star property). We have been hiring for the front desk lately and have had some very interesting characters come by with their resumes. One lady came by wearing short shorts and a bandana top… However, the other day we had a lady who was probably about mid 40's come in with her resume. After looking over her resume I learned that she was from Dubai, bilingual, and had a lot of hotel experience. After she left, I told my supervisor that it was a very impressive resume to which she responded that I shouldn't even bother passing it on to HR because she will never get hired because she is "too old and not pretty enough".
Before my job at the Delta, I was a front desk agent at the one of the leading Best Western in North America. Many of the women I worked with there were a lot older than me and I loved it! They were all so good at their job and are now some of my best friends (I've always been called an old-soul).
I know that the hospitality industry can be quiet shallow but it really caught me off guard and made me quite sad that this woman would have her experience and talents looked over just because she doesn't fit someone's idea of "pretty". I still passed her resume on to HR though.
Just wanted to share this because it has really been bothering me…
