    Hello Everyone!

A few months ago, a friend recommended I try pole dancing. I already do hoop dancing and absolutely love it, but I have been wanted to expand my creative dance skills for a while. After watching various pole dancing videos and talking to friends who pole dance, I immediately became obsessed with the time. I’m a recent college grad working toward law school and on a very fixed income, so my options for learning are pretty limited. I decided to save up for an x-pole (because various people have told me it is the safest for learning at home), but in the mean time have been working on flexibility and strength training. I pretty much watch pole dancing videos daily, and that keeps me motivated to work out daily. In the past couple months, I have gotten into the best shape I’ve been in in years and my encouragement to start pole dancing has kept increasing. Along with work and studying for the law school admission test, it’s one of the only things on my mind.

I figured I would finally have enough for an x-pole by next month, but last week I discovered my dog has lymphoma and will need chemotherapy in order to survive past the next few weeks. My entire family is pulling most of our resources together to pay for it, which means I have no idea when I’ll be able to order an x-pole. Obviously my dog is my top priority, but I also hope to find a way to continue pursue pole dancing. Along with my pre-existing interest, I think it will be a great way to deal with the emotions of this stressful time.

If there is ANYONE in possession of an unused in home spinning/static pole that is still safe to use and has all of the necessary equipment, it would truly mean the world to me. The condition/quality of the pole is important, because I cannot afford lessons right now and will be learning solely from youtube videos. Or if you know of anyone who has one they no longer use/need, I would also appreciate it if you’d let them know about this message. I promise this is not any sort of scam, and I’d be happy to video chat/talk on the phone/show you my Facebook/etc. so you can see I’m legit. Although money is tight, I will pay whatever I can (and of course I’d pay for any shipping costs).

Thank you for your time. -Ashley

    Hey there!
I’m so sorry to hear about your dog- that is horrible. I’m glad to hear you’ve got some money to help, and that things seemed to work out that way.
However, I understand it’s also frustrating on the pole dancing front! Poles can be quite expensive, and even though you only need one, sometimes getting it is tough.
You can always check out Craislist or Ebay or Kijiji, though I would say to be careful about buying knockoffs! Some people have gotten excellent deals, though, and if you check back often, I’m sure you can find something that fits your budget. Some patience and tenacity, and I’m sure you can find something that works!

Congrats, by the way, on being in excellent shape, and not allowing your challenges to dampen your enthusiasm and spirit! You have impressive dedication 🙂
Some other skills you can work on, in the mean time, if you get bored, could be things like handstands, or even getting a pull up bar and trying tilting your body forward and back while holding yourself up with your arms. These would really help in your future pole dancing!
    Good luck!

Thank you for the response. 🙂

Yes…it was heart wrenching news. My dog is my baby and best friend…I cannot and will not let him go without a fight. My parents are helping out a lot thank goodness, but I have to put whatever I can toward it as well.

I haven’t had much luck with Ebay or Craigslist, but I will check out Kiliji. When I first got excited about pole dancing, I had no idea how expensive a pole would be. I almost bought a cheap one off of amazon, but a friend of me cautioned me against it. Then I read some articles/blogs about women sustaining serious injuries from using low quality poles, and I decided the potential for broken bones wasn’t worth saving a few bucks.

Haha, thank you for the dedication comment. I’m the kind of the person who gets tunnel vision when I really want something. I’ve been doing daily stretches, purchased a pull up bar and weights from Goodwill, and doing various other exercises I see on youtube videos. I’ve always been pretty thin and never though much about ‘getting in shape’…but these past couple months have been a real eye opener. I generally don;t dedicate myself to anything without a specific goal in mind, so I’ve never been one to go to the gym or do any sort of exercise beyond hoop dancing. But now, I can move faster, I’m more toned/muscular, I can move my arms and legs further in all directions…plus I have more energy, sleep better, etc. After experiencing this, I can’t wait to see what will happen when I actually start pole dancing. Working on handstands is a good idea…I could improve balance for sure.

Thank you for the tips and encouraging words. 🙂
