Lazy or Lethargic
Posted by jeansgina on July 10, 2012 at 12:16 pmI have an issue with alcohol so I gave up drinking about 7 months ago. Since then I seem to have lost all my energy to exercise and keep on top of housework. It's 6:15pm and I'm in bed already instead of poling like I had planned to do alll day. I can only work out 2 times a week maximum and i'm wiped out the rest of the time and I'm worried I'm just lazy. I want to do more but I'm soooooo tired. What gives you energy? I eat well but I do like a lot of chocolate. I need some helpful tips if possible. Thanks for reading

You could be depressed, I know that can cause lethargy if there's no other apparent cause…
-
So many things could be causing your issue. A couple of things I’ve strugled with that can cause fatigue are hormone imbalance and improper thyroid function. Seeing a doctor probably isn’t a bad idea!
-
You could be anemic when was the last time you had bloodwork done?
Depression and stress can also cause fatigue and sleepiness(alot of people just want to sleep and or have no energy to do anything when they are depressed)
Also your thyroid could be an issue as someone else mentioned. I just recently found out that I have a low thyroid, which totally explained my recent extreme fatigue & sleepiness through most of the day. I've been taking homeopathic supplements for my thyroid which has helped some but I still have to fight the fatigue and still force myself to pole at home or Zumba some days.
Getting checked out by your doctor just to be on the safe side wouldnt be a bad idea 😉

digestion is a tremendous bodily function… if you are eating TOO well your body could be allocating all of its energy towards digesting your hearty meal. Sometimes when I try to eat lots and lots of healthy foods, i end up just exhausting myself. Non-dairy chocolate is full of wonderful antioxidants and can supply you with a tiny caffeine boost, so no worries there 🙂
Depression sometimes gets me lethargic, and i just wait til it passes. my menstral cycle plays into my energy levels as well… seems like some point between my ovulation and my period, i have a good 2 or 3 days where i have zero energy and require a daily nap. and when i say nap, i mean i am out for like 2 hours!!!
i hope you find your mojo soon and get back on that pole girl! chin up 🙂

and when i say "too well" i mean too much protein. There is a huge misconception that we need to eat mostly but protein, but actually we only need 8-10%. We derive most of our energy from carbs (the best carbs are complex and not refined). If you eat too much protein and not enough carbs, you will feel low on energy.

Thanks so much for the responses, I don't think I'm depressed as I am always laughing and feel happy in myself. I'm not sleeping anymore, I'm just worn out and need rest. I will have a look at my diet and see what I can amend and get to the doctors.
Thanks again

I suddenly started feeling fatigued and lethargic. After a couple weeks I figured out I developed an intolerance to Splenda (sucralose). I was eating a teaspoon of sugar-free jam each morning and it contained sucralose. My energy came back the next day after I stopped eating it.

I have been taken anti depressants for a while now, they are what got me off the booze. Just seems that alcohol gave me the energy I needed and withit it I'm so tired. I think you're right menphiskitten, I just need time. At the meetings they say it takes a while but I'm just getting so impatient now.

Some people do find certain anti-depressants make them exhausted though. My bf was on Citalopram years ago for a while and while it helped in some ways, he also found he needed crazy amounts of sleep and was exhausted all the time.
Perhaps mention it to your doctor in case it's a simple case of the particular type not suiting you well? There are a lot of different antidepressants so they might be able to try you on another.

Congratulations for being sober for 7 months! Keep going because it will pay off at the end!!!
In addition to what has been said above, it seems important to me to take care of the liver: it is well known that the cirrhosis is due to drinking problems. I don't say that you have cirrhosis, but the liver should not be neglected in this process. The lack of energy comes from the weak liver, besides that there might be also issue with the thyroid etc…Supporting the body in detoxifying the liver and in general will help the energy recovery. It will take time for sure.
Maybe you can try one day per week to have very light eating; like liquid diet or fasting;
Put the accent on the fresh vegetables and fruits – it will feed the body with energy
Sleep a lot if necessary because this is also part of the recovery process
One thing you can do to definately to support the liver is to put over the night a hot-water bottle on the liver area (right side below the ribs) – however, put some small towel between the botthel and the skin to avoid the skin burn. It will help the liver to eliminate the toxines quicker out of the body.
In the morning, you can mix 1 spoon of olive oil and 1 spoon of lemon juice and drink it before your first meal: it will help the bladder to eliminate the stones…
Good luck!

I like the idea of an olive oil and lemon juice shot in the morning, I'm going to give that a go as of tomorrow thanks 🙂

I’m replying to this post because I seem to have recovered from my “lazyness” and thought it could help others if I tell them what I’m doing different.
I cut way down on sugar, started taking multi vitamins, fish oils and vitamin b complex. Also I’ve started taking protein after every workout. I have noticed a massive difference in my energy levels and I am much more positive mentally. I’m like wonder woman now.
Thanks for everyone who has given me advice in the past 🙂

I would get some blood tests just to make sure but it is probably just depression. I suffer from anxiety and depression too. It can break a pole session. This is bad for many reasons. It makes you weak, sad, and unmotivated. Pole is something I have to be in a certain mood for. So if I am sad it is not happening. You could have low iron too. I found out a few months ago I have low iron and take a vitamin daily. But when you have a session like that it makes you never want to touch a pole again. Trust me! I know. Once you get tests done, you can decide weather or not you think it is depression and get it treated or not but it helps just knowing what it is. I began to record my December challenge one day last month. I put on my outfit I bought special. I did my hair. I got out there and got immediate failure feelings and could not even lift myself up to hold a spin!!! I am doing cartwheels and half hamdsprings!!! I just couldn’t do it. I cried. I didn’t touch the pole again for 3 weeks. I am back now. I watched my video of the crying and know I was just having a depression day. If you ever need to talk, message me and I hope you go and figure out what is wrong. Happy poling, Hon!
