I take clases at Xpose fitness here in Maryland and they have names for all of the moves but as I read more and more about "poling" I see that some moves and spins are called other names than what I was taught. So here’s my question. I’m trying to find some video/instruction on a move my instructors call "Love it or Hate it". They call it love it or hate because you’ll either love the beauty and sexyness of it or you’ll hate it for the pain and torture it puts on the back of your spinning knee LOL. I personally hated it at first but have grown to love it!

I’ll try to describe it. Going right.

You stand with the pole at your right side. Lift your right leg and hook the pole behind your right knee. Grip the pole with your right hand just above your knee. Your then bend over and grab the pole with your left hand below your right leg. This is the set up for the spin, when you spin you lower your head and shoulders between your standing leg and the elevated leg and use that falling momentum to swing around the pole. As you spin you can open your leg wide for a beautiful show as you spin. I’ve also seen women pause at the end of this spin and go backwards and I’ve seen them perform the spin going backwards, where they fall back instead of forward (very very scary to try).

Does anyone know anyother names for this move. I tried my best to describe it, I hope you can figure it out LOL.

Hi Sissybuns! Lilmisslola has a created a site that includes a pole moves directory with the different names used for many moves : http://www.wikipole.org it’s pretty cool you should check it out!
The spin you’re describing sounds to me like the one i know as the side spin (i did it in my glam rock vid), although i’m not sure.
Where in maryland are you? I grew up there, and still go back once in a while to visit family https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hmmm not sure….spins are one of those things that every studio has their own names for, If I can picture it in my head and come up with the name I’ll let you know. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Sounds like a side spin to me, too… I can’t do this one, my legs slide down faster than my arms do so my body won’t stay flat. It’s on my "to do" list https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I think another name for it is the Dizzy Lizzy… except with the videos I’ve seen, in one the unhooked leg is straight and the other it’s bent. So I think they’re the same thing??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif

Wikipole is great but the spins directory is still under construction. But type in side spin or dizzy lizzy and pole dancing into the search box on YouTube and see what comes up and see if it’s what you’re trying to describe. Also check out Veena’s lessons… she may have a how-to on this move, too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

Yeah, I had meant to get the spins sorted on WikiPole sooner, but sorting out the moves directory left me not wanting to take on another big project so soon. I will be sorting it out in the next few weeks, and if anyone has any vids (ideally just showing the one spin) then please message me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Ok, I youtubed the Dizzy Lizzy and the side spin and I couldn’t find an example of the side spin, but it looks like the dizzy lizzy is it…it seems like it might be just a tad different though. I wish I had my pole so I could record the spin and show it to you LOL because I’m horrible at describing *goes to fedex.com to track pole shipping*

She does a side spin at the beginning of the video. Looks pretty much like the dizzy lizzy except the one leg is straight. Does that look more like it???

Is this the spin that is also called the "Falling Forward Spin?"

If it’s the one I am thinking of, then the momentum of the spin can be used to pull the extended leg up and out into a butterfly invert. Boomloulou has a video doing this move on You-Tube.
