I'm starting to finally show mine a little through pole, I've been the chubby kid/girl my whole life but am in the best shape of my life due to pole and I noticed they were poking through a bit! Of course that was before all the junk food and beer I had this weekend… 🙂

People tend to agree that they are mostly genetic, so if you have them they can appear with poling, but if you don't have them then they won't. I'm pretty sure it's not in my genetic make up to have them since no matter how fit or unfit I've been, I've never seen em, where as some friends have had them no matter what they do and some actually want to get rid of them but can't.

i have em and so does my boyfriend =)
i had to do some googling after reading this… my curiosity was piqued too! i found this article online with a suggestion on how you may be able to get yours to come out of hiding.

Lower back dimples are visible when fat does not settle into your posterior superior iliac spine. PSIS is basically a landmark on your pelvis. Everyone has two. Some people simply do not deposit fat there as easily as others so no matter how thin they get (unless they are waifish), they won’t have the dimples.
I usually just lurk on here but I remember being taught about that in massage therapy school. Just some random knowledge…

Let me amend a statement:
Some people do not deposit fat there as easily as others. The rest of us won’t get them no matter how much weight we lose. (I really should not be up this late…haha)

aww thanks for the replies guys! Apparently after another opinion, i do have them 😀 I thought it was just wishful vision lol. I didn't notice them when I was bigger and I know I'm not waifish now. I am in one of the best shapes of my life right now so I think I can make them even more noticeable as I continue to gain strength and eat better.

i've always had them but i've never been overweight or anything… i thought it was just genetic though. i've seen them on bigger people too, but i guess it just depends on where your fat settles

ooh i didn't know there was a name for them.
mine come and go. i always assumed that they appear because i've gained fat around the hips from eating too much, and i'm happier when they disappear. i didn't realise they are "desirable" / a result of exercise.
