Beautiful veeners – PLEASE send any and all tips for getting the meat hook for the first time. I’ve never even heard of the move until recently and can’t seem to figure it out.

    hashtag – determined.

I’m not sure if Veena has a lesson on the meathook or not because I haven’t subscribed to the lessons in a few years, but I know she’s putting LOADS of new lessons up lately and I think her explanations are amazing and thorough and very well done. So if she has a lesson for it, that’s the first place I’d go.

Otherwise, I made a little video a while ago of my favourite way to get into the meathook – here’s the link:

I think meat hook can only really be done spinning, because that spin movement helps to keep you on the pole. Although I still don’t feel “safe” taking that top arm off?

I tried another variation of it, coming into it from a twisted grip shoulder mount, (which you can do static)
    (video: http://instagram.com/p/th9CHPlS21/)

I wonder if it’s a simple matter of really engaging the lats of the arm that’s holding on? As well as bringing the toes down and keeping the butt up?

I actually just did this one today for the boomkittenpole challenge on Instagram. How I did it was:

    -Invert up into chopper
-Hook my outside leg (in my case, it was my right leg) like I was going into Gemini
-Take my inside leg (my left) and pulled it back like I was going into a Jade split
-Once my inside leg was secure, slowly unhook my outside and move it to the other side of the pole
-Once secure, I removed my top hand and voila! Meathook.

I hope this was helpful. I also included a couple of pics of how I looked once I maneuvered into Meathook

Which variation? The one with a hand hold or the one with the armpit hold? They are both similar, but very different.

I remember that vid, Lola! 😀
Meathook IS very hard. I find it pretty painful. I can only do it a handful of times before I have to come back to it another time. It is tricky to find the right balance to remove the top arm, too.

Is Tasha J doing an armpit hold? Because hers looks different from the meathook I know, and looks more like a sideways pike?
With the arm straight hold you need to be tilted so feet are down and bum is up to get that balance.

No it’s not an armpit hold. I’m holding with my bottom hand. I know it’s kind of hard to see.

That was as straight as I could get it without falling on my ass. I wasn’t aiming for perfection. 🙍

Yes the arm should be straight, you’ll get there Tasha. Lolas vid is a good starting point, I don’t have much else to offer but I was about to share this vid on our SV FB page and remembered it has a meat hook in it! It gives a pretty good view. I’m unsure of what entry I used though. It’s at 1:11 https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4f0f5525-814c-42d0-9b4c-22410ac37250

Eh. I don’t particularly care what the arm is supposed to look like. I did it for a challenge and it’s one of those moves I don’t plan on repeating.

There’s no need to get defensive, Tasha, the comments are for anyone who comes across this and is having difficulties with it. We’re all just trying to help each other out.
Maybe you don’t care if you’re doing the move right, but I care if I am.

Yes, Tasha no one is trying to be rude. It’s actually more difficult (I think) to muscle through with the arm bent, you may find you like the move better with a different arm placement. You never know when you may want to try it again. 🙂

I can post a video of about 10 different ways in, but the key is to keep your hips high by really pulling up with your oblique. Then use your abs to pike your feet towards your face to keep a stomach/thigh hold. let me know of you want a video!
