I have 5 guys who want to do a pole workshop and learn pole dance. I think this is cool~ but I am not really sure if I should teach it the same way I do women.
Women want to learn to love sexy~ these men are all about the strength moves~~
I know them all well enough and I know their core strength and overall physical strength is there. But how/what do I teach them? lol
Anytime I get together with girlfriends on the weekend to pole~we end up having the men get in there to play too~ they turn into the biggest monkeys~~love it…..It is a blast to watch~

And I can kinda hear the lingering question~~~ nope. They are all hetero.
I think it all boils down to a "anything you can do, I can do better" type of thing.

Has anyone else come across men who want to pole? My hubby is the only one I know who can pull off a flag and hold it forever!! He has pissed off a few of my friends cuz he has the strength to pull it off………..but he is a carpenter and has a very physically demanding job.

    anyhoo………thoughts?

    Thanks in advance~~

Make them do alot of stretches, lol, strong guys are often very inflexible and it would be entertaining for you! It would also show them that pole is not just about brute strength and give them a challenge they would have to work on.

In terms of how to structure a class, sorry but am no help there as am a beginner poler myself. Good luck, will be a fun class!

If they are buff, and tatted would be a bonus, have them work out shirtless or in those white wife beaters and post a video https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Hey, keep us posted, we’re considering offering a "vertical fitness" class for men. Our instructors hubbies can do all the moves, and I think a lot of guys would love to be as buff as we are!

You really need to get in touch with Jungle Cat or maybe even Josiah (Badazz on youtube), possibly even Joel (poledancefan), although I think he is more self taught than studio taught. I have been seeing a lot of hip-hop/break dancing mixed with pole lately and that might be a route you would want to take.

Yea our studio allows guys and I have taught a couple of men before.

I basically go straight to climbing and some static holds with them. Cradle tuck, boomerang hold, wonderwoman flag (that’s flag with your knees bent), jazz man etc. I also do pole pull ups/chins up, and pole crunches (the tucks you do to prep for an invert). Usually they also want to try a few spins just for a laugh as well. Depending on their strength we also do inverts into basic straddle aka inverted V.

In my experience (and of course, all men are different, this is just a huge generalisation) men are initially more aware of their specific muscles than a lot of women, so if you can "talk the talk", which muslces are contracting or holding the weight, that can help them get the moves faster.

Definitely stretch is a big thing coz being super strong USUALLY goes hand in hand with being inflexible (example: rugby players), unless of course you train for both from the beginning.

    Have fun!

Hey, I’m a man! and I love to pole dance! I attend a class at Aradia in downtown Toronto that has an advanced co-ed class with 6 men and 5 women. This is the most fun class you could ever imagine! Guys definetely want to learn the tricks, but I think there are ways for men to move sensually too, but in a masculine way! The co-ed environment makes for a very fun, crazy and different atmosphere!

I’m also an instructor at Spinbuddies in Newmarket and we have some men there too. We’ve had some interesting conversations between the instructors about the differences between male and female sensual movement. Women tend to lead alot with their hips, chest or bum, whereas men pelvic thrust alot and lead with their brains and show off their strength anyway possible.

Some of the spins look gay when men do them (fire chick, dirty martini, ballerina, chair) but others look really cool like diamond, corkscrew, backleg hook, ribbon with straight body, spinning helicopter, straight body chin up spin facing pole etc.

Our class calls the extended butterfly the Special-K (sounds more masculine).
