    Hey everyone!

I am a very new poler, only been at it a couple of weeks and am having some trouble with my middle splits. I am fairly flexible as I used to figure skate and can do a flat side split on one side and an almost flat on the other side after stretching 5-7 days a week for the last couple of weeks.

However, as my side/front splits have constantly been progressing and getting better, my centre split does not seem to be prgoressing. I am only about 5 or so inches from the ground and it hasn't changed since I started stretching.

Any tips for me lovely ladies and gentlemen?  Thank you in advance!

Yes I do!!! Here is a video I did with tips for middles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Lv6af4pKQ8&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLyXWQXP3dueofybLatPPuLCbvfSPF2oSF

Also on the site here there are several individual stretching lessons that will help along with foam roller lessons. In addition to those, I have a 20 Minute Middle splits routine! https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4e2d837d-6f9c-46f6-93df-22110ac37250 https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hi Veena! Thanks for your links! I should've mentioned that I have been doing these lessons but have no luck with my middle split improving. I feel like one of my muscle groups is tight and stopping me from doing it but I cannot work out which one!

I have also been foam rolling and its helped to relieve muscle pain and my front splits…Maybe I am just impatient lol

One girl said that stretching her back first helps her with middle splits. I guess it's because if you can arch your lower back, the middle split-stretch may get a bit deeper.

I also find back stretching – back bending in particular – helps my middle split.  I think back bending warms you up really well, and releases a lot of tension held in the lower back & even hip flexors (bc the hip flexors stretch in many backbends too.)

The other thing to help splits of all varieties is pilates (or similar) – really isolating the lower core deep under the navel and below.  Be careful because some Pilates classes are really just random core strengthening exercises.  If you can really focus on that lower core, it leaves the rest of your body free to be loose & relaxed.  Your legs will flop all over the place! : )
