Sorry iPod published before I was done. Anyways….
Since the implant did not work out for me, I got a mirena yesterday. I am cramping on and off. Every once in a while I feel like the top of my uterus craps where the “t” is. Ouch. Just curious as to how long I have to suffer through this part.
On a funny note, my friend has named it “Dexter” because it is my “dark passenger.” 🙂

I want to say a good 3 days at least for the cramping with each day being easier. I will note though that with my first one my cramps around what would have been that time of the month were AWFUL for the first 3-6 months but only for a day. It felt like I had the worst gas cramps plus constipation (which I did not have…just that feeling like you are full to the gills).
I think I may have spotted for close to a week

Thanks chem. I definitely have the constipation with it (so weird.) I used to get that b4 I went on the pill and had really bad cramps. I will be prepared for bad cramps (hoping that will stop; I got this so I would not get bad cramps in the long run.)

This was really only while my period was ending. Now the only way I even know when it should be "that time" is my eating habits. I used to get cramps the second day of my period that would lay me up in bed, and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I had prescritions for Anaprox before Aleve was even on the market. That stuff always worked best for me….I would take 3-4 Aleve, lay down for 30 minutes and I would be human again.

I do not want to scare you but I think it is only fair that I tell you what happened to me with my mirena last year. I thought it was going to be the best thing for me and was all pumped about it after reading up on it. When the doctor inserted it, there was the pain of opening my cervix which was awful and then the insertion pain. I had a good amount of pain for many moments after and cramps for the rest of the day, I think. She looked at me like I was a whimp and said something about how it should not hurt that much–I just told her to give me a minute or two. At the one month check, she could not find the strings that were supposed to be there and the mirena could not be found on ultrasound. She had not ever had this happen to a patient before and said it is rare to have the mirena lost inside. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif She sent me for an x-ray and it showed up on x-ray in the place it should have been in my uterus. She then set me up for a laparoscopy for "IUD retrieval." Needless to say, I was pretty freaked out and sick of being a rare case of anything. Case of the missing IUD was solved as she found it hiding out by my left ovary, after it perforated my uterus from th backside. My theory is that it perforated upon insertion, since I had that painful period right after. Something just wasn't right…
Listen to your body and if you have any concerns, do hesitate to call the dr, make an appointment to check that everything is where it should be. It is not highly likely to perforate, but I am just one of the lucky ones.

ooop! By "period" I mean time period… not the other one. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Perforation is a total fear of mine. I just checked and right now I can still feel the strings. It's the first time I've checked so I have no idea if they are shorter or longer than originally. I find it really odd that it would perforate since it is so flexible ya know? I'll keep checking those strings. I need to schedule my 1 month check-up.

I had the Mirena in for about 4 years. I don't remember cramping initially or any issues during the first few days. I do remember that it hurt pretty bad going in and I thought I was going to pass out and they got out the smelling salts. LOL. I do remember having very light periods that were fairly irregular. The doc who put it in (I was his first) was old and close to retiring and he cut the strings too short and they went inside the uterus. I had the same issue as Jelli in that it was 'lost' so I was sent for a sonogram and luckily it was right where it was supposed to be and nothing was perforated. I had to undergo anesthesia and 'surgery' to have it removed years later, but it was real quick and I had no issues afterwards. So sensual, I'm glad you can feel your strings! So sorry to hear about the issue you had Jelli!

I had Mirena for about a year. I was hoping i would have it until i was about ready for menopause, but unfortunately it didn’t work out. The cramping lasted for about 3 days after the initial insertion, and I had really bad cramps during my periods for about 6 months afterwards. Come to find out my uterus is slightly tilted which made the Mirena pretty painful for me. I finally had it removed. Getting off the Mirena is not fun. I bled heavily for almost 50 days (yes fifty!) straight. I think if it wasn’t for a tilted uterus, it would’ve been fine.

It’s good that you checked the strings since I didn’t even know to check the strings. I thought the same thing about the flexibility since the commercial always shows the woman squishing it in her fingers. There are more people who have success than not, so just listen to your body to see if it is right for you. After I knew it had perforated it felt like every time I moved that I could feel it. This was probably in my head but who knows–by that point I just wanted it out. I do know she cut my strings so they were not so long. I do wish you the best with it since I would have liked it to work out for me.

I can't "feel it" per se. I just start cramping more in certain positions. Like sitting is more unfomfortable than lying down or standing, probably cuz it's compressing my uterus on the thing.
-
I also have a tipped uterus and I have had 2 mirenas. In between the two I had nothing for about 3 weeks and did not experience bleedeing after the removal with the exception of spotting because there was difficulty removing it. I have never had children so insertion and removal were horroble. Not to mention when I went to have the second one placed she screwed up and I had to wait another 2 weeks for a new device. BUT even with all of that I would do it again!

I would not worry about it too much–hard to do now that I freaked you out, sorry. Each woman's body responds differently to these things… Besides, there was nothing I could have done about it once the IUD went where ever it was going. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Just wait it out until your one month appointment to check for the placement and go from there. Some cramping may be normal and it may take sometime for your body to get used to it. Whatever the case, it is what it is, so I would just use condoms until the check-up.
Please let me know how it turns out!

Right now I am at day 3 of cramping. The cramping has been consistent these last 3 days. It has not decreased each day, but it has not been as bad as when it was first put in either. I would expect a decrease in cramping , but it is staying the same.

I'm getting mine within an hour.
I'm very scared. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif
I read to many horror stories on the internet. Please let it go well.
