Hey all, the studio group I go to, Bodymind Studios, are hosting Miss Pole SA 2010 on the 11th September and we’ve managed to secure Jenyne Butterfly to come out and judge for us! Woohoo!

Now, I’m pretty new to poledancing, been doing it for about 10 months now but very new to dancing. But I’ve decided to enter the amateur division!! I’m all nervous and excited at the same time!!

So I’ve picked a song, Lullaby by The Cure, and now I have to start prepping. Problem is, even though it’s still 8 weeks away, I only have 4 weekends to practice! I’m away next weekend doing a mountainbike race and then 2 1/2 weeks in August i’ll be on holiday in South East Asia! Eek!

Anyway, i’ll keep updating here as the preparation starts, hope to get lots of advice on costumes and choreography from all you talented ladies!

So, we’re only a few weeks away and I’ve made some progress. I have a good idea of the moves I want to use, I am working with my poledance instructor to put together my routine. I have my music, cut to the right length and I have some intro music to get me onto stage. I have a theme, I have some elements of my costume worked out. Phew, I can breathe a bit!

This has been such an interesting journey, I have really felt like I have grown as a dancer through this!

Where will this take place? Not in Cape Town I assume…?

Nope sorry. It’s going to be in Johannesburg at the Lyric Theatre (Gold Reef City). You can look it up on Computicket, Google ‘pole’ and you’ll find it. Could be worth coming up for, Natasha is bringing Jenyne Butterfly out from the US for the event!! What an opportunity to see her live!

So, I’ve decided to do the intermediate category, it means a 3 minute routine instead of a 2 minute routine, and I’ll be doing more complex tricks. I’m hopefully going to work with Natasha this evening to choreograph what I want to do, then I’ll just have to visualise it for the 17 days that I’m away on holiday! But I’m going to stretch and do toning exercises every day to make sure I don’t lose too much form.

Maybe it will show on dstv? Let me know if you hear anything.

Can’t just fly to JHB on a student’s budget ;p

Oh, yes that would be a problem! I earn a decdent salary and I’m not just hopping on flights to Cape Town either, chuckle! I think poledancing may be a bit left field still for dsTV, but Natasha will make a video and I’m sure she’ll put the new pics up on her website!
