Hello fellow polers. Did anyone see the Miley Cyrus performance on the Kid’s Choice Awards last night? I missed it but saw this article about her pole dance bit. http://justjared.buzznet.com/2009/08/10/miley-cyrus-pole-dancing-party-in-the-usa/Seems like the kids are seeing this as very negative. What do you guys think?

Oh my gosh…I feel conflicted with this LOL. I love poledancing. Pole dancing.

I’m not too sure I love a 16 year old (that my 7 year old absolutely worships) in booty shorts dancing around a pole.

I don’t know. Minors and pole…??? I don’t know. LOL I feel like if I love it so much why wouldn’t I be like "Go Miley" show them youngsters what its about! Maybe if she was actually a serious pole dancer who has studied the craft I would encourage it but I don’t know…

I actually watched the show because an east coast friend had mentioned it on Facebook. Honestly, the girl came out, got on top of the ice cream truck and sang her song. It looked to me like she used the pole more as support while she sang and the truck moved. SHE DID NOT DO ANY MOVEMENTS THAT YOU COULD EVEN CONSIDER DANCING. I didn’t even see the point of her being there except maybe to elevate her so more of the audience could see her. If she had actually been pole dancing, I would have felt very uneasy about her because of her age and her influence on young girls. But truly, she wasn’t pole dancing at all.

Well that makes me feel better.

Ok once again I think the pressing making a big deal out of nothing. She stood there for most of it. I didnt see NOT ONE pole trick. I would want a pole on top of an ice cream cart if you were going to be pushing me on it too. So I wouldnt fall off.

i just watched it & i didn’t see why it caused a fuss at all. she stood there & held on to it. && if anyone was gonna get all pissy about that why are they not getting pissed about the "booty" shorts? lol! as pole dancing becomes more popular teen girls are obviously gonna be drawn to it, its really fun & they are gonna see that & want to try it out too! from what i understand several "young hollywood" starlets have poles in their homes & a lot of the little pop star chicks do too… so its just a matter of time https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I just saw this on the newsthis morning, and I agree with you … she squatted/crouched down a couple of times but in no way was it raunchy or like poledancing at all. To be honest it looked like it was more there as a safety precaution than as a prop for a more raunchy dance move. Poor Miley. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_neutral.gif

This is a post written about the event on Jezebel… a 3rd wave feminist website. If anyone is interested, the post itself along with the comments offer some interesting thoughts about Miley’s "pole dance." (I’m not trying to promote or anything here, I’m not even registered as a user on Jezebel, I just really like a lot of the stories and female empowerment that the site, and I thought some of the ladies (and men) on here might like it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif )

Omg she was only on the pole for a few mins at best and barely moved while she was on it and like yogabeachbabe said, it seems like she was only using the pole as support. Perhaps its the little rebel in her that made her decide to use a pole in her performance or perhaps the decision was made for her! Nobody knows…

I was actually disappointed when I watched the video. I thought there was going to be some actual pole dancing! I was waiting for them to push the cart out a second time cuz I surely knew she did some pole tricks or something. I was like WTF?! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif The media creates imaginary drama again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

Oooh you’re brave. I also work on a government network connection and so far I’ve been hesitant to browse this forum while at work.
