Moves you DON’T want to learn?
Posted by Schtoffen on January 29, 2014 at 1:34 pmDoes anyone else have moves that they don’t want to learn? Why not?

will learn and try everything once, however, most of the new main stream moves seem to require quite a bendy contorted back, which mine is just not build like that. It just isn’t, so I do not force train those moves because I need my body healthy for my everyday job.

Hmm, good question. I don’t think there is any move I would not try at least once(provided I was physically ready for it), but there are certainly moves I am not fond over and have no desire to keep doing.

Yea, the bar is being raised all the time and more and more both contorted and very strength demanding tricks are becoming “mainstreamized”. Which is cool per se, but with that the device that every move is not for everyone also gains importance.
I’m not keen on the deadlifts and many of the other typical strength tricks which are supposed to be lifted into because that doesn’t suit my body type very well. I’m not going to say Absolutely Never that I’ll do them, but anyway.

Twisted grip lift as it hurts my wrist. And anything twisted grip ..

I will *learn* any move, however there are many that I will not *perform*. I do not need to do a move to learn it and have taught many that I cannot physically perform myself. I have the ability to see what someone is doing wrong and also the ability to see things that a move requires that others do not. I am always learning……

I would love to learn but will NEVER ever try more than once to do the knee hang! I know audiences love it and it looks so cool but it is so painful on your bottom knee that I just refuse to dedicate time to learn it:(

I don’t want to learn the elbow grip ayesha but I have to! I can do the split grip fine but the elbow one is so scary, I hate it! I have to learn it for a routine at pole class. Ah well I guess we all need to conquer our fears in some way or another.

Chem…I know who to go to for troubleshooting then! Moves I don’t want to learn…any ‘move of the week’.
-
I agree with Chem: I’ll learn any move thrown at me, but I may not perform it. I actually have a few moves in my repertoire that I don’t use, because I find them too… “blatantly stripper-ish,” if you catch my meaning. I’m not the “pole hump” kind of girl.
But, any move can teach you something new, can improve your strength or your understanding of your movements, and can potentially improve all the other moves you do use! That’s my philosophy 😉 -
Like most of you, I will try most moves at least a few times, but there are definitely some that I don’t want to perfect or pursue more than that. For example, moves that require practically inhuman flexibility, such as Rainbow Marchenko and Spatchcock, or super-dangerous moves like Fonji. I know the limits of my flexibility, and know that I will be able to improve that flexibility with practice, but the fact of the matter is that I’m not a contortionist, so I don’t need to injure myself trying to do contortion tricks.

How much do I love that one of my pole idols Tiffany Hayden has a similar loathing of the knee hang? Yes, any move that requires knee hangs or ankle hangs ( Remi Sit) is on my ohhellno list. Most other difficult/bad assmoves I would want to give a go or at least work up to until it becomes clear that its beyond me or unflattering etc. But the knee & ankle hangs!!! I’m also starting to confirm that moves rooted in Chinese Pole ( like the foot mount) look amaze on other polers but are really not my style..so..no.

I have absolutely no interest in learning to do the Janeiro, mostly because I have yet to see someone get out of it gracefully. Usually it’s the last move before the lights go out.
If I can’t dance onto it or out of it, I don’t want to do it.
I’m also generally not interested in moves that are difficult or impossible to do in shoes. I love me some platform shoes and don’t want my tricks to interfere with my shoe love lol.

I will have a go at everything, I won’t not do something before having a good try but there is one I refuse to do now. The Teddy! After much inner arm pain I refuse to do it anymore. I am yet to see anyone get into it from up the pole gracefully and get out of it gracefully and it’s just not pretty.
Can do it, don’t like it so won’t do it. If it’s in a routine at pole I skip it completely. -
Another vote for just say no to knee holds! Seem to have luck first time then try it again and forget it just plain pain. This one will continue to be on my not gonna bother list 🙂
